I have a GI-275 as Primary HSI, so it has the required backup battery. For the annual Backup Battery Test, can the pilot sign that off, or does it need to be an A&P/IA? Is any log book required? Garmin Technical Service said they THOUGHT it was pilot performed with no log book entry required, but I wanted to see if a anyone on the group knew definitively. Thanks!

If this is the annual battery rundown test per the ICA inspection then it requires a AP sign off. If performing the IFR battery charge state test per the AFM supplement limitations then its considered a "preflight" item and can be performed by the pilot without a record entry.
