My wife was traveling today and stopped at a gas station to use the restroom. There was a kid hovering around the front entrance to the building, and when my wife went to the restroom she noticed him going into the adjacent men’s room. This got her spidey senses going, and she noticed what looked like a peephole in the wall. When she covered it up, she heard the kid leave the men’s room.

My first thought was that a whiff of pepper spray across the hole would have eliminated any question, but my wife is a little less inclined that direction.

What would be an appropriate solution to something like this?

The **** that women have to worry about… :(

Innocent until proven guilty collides with right to privacy. One of those covers Sporty’s sells to cover up a tumbled gyro can be a happy medium.

As can stopping at Buc-cee’s instead of the Cracker Box (I kid you knot; it’s just off the Arkansas side of Memphis off I-40).

Pepper spray ain’t as bad as lead poisoning.

Al Bundy: "What the heck are you doing, did you drill this hole in the wall to the bathroom?"
Bud Bundy: "Um, sorry dad."
Al Bundy: "That's low, son."
Bud Bundy: "I know."
Al Bundy: "I mean, it's way too low, all you are going to see is knees."

Lots of creeps out there. It would not surprise me.

Staring directly at the alleged peephole with intense, unblinking, unwavering eye contact should be enough to ruin the creeps experience.

But it is an unfortunate problem to have in the first place.

Put a box over the peephole with a picture in it so that the perv looking through it gets an eyeful of a really really disgusting looking "babe"

(yeah, more work than you probably want to go through)

The victim should point her own phone camera through the hole, don't even need to snap a photo. The kid will spend months terrified that somebody got him on film.

Is shouldn't be difficult to tell if it really is a peep-hole. If it turns out it is, then the police should be called and the kid should at least be questioned. I would hope the gas station has a video camera that could help identify the perp perv.

So this was so concerning to your wife you didn’t contact the business management or the police?

Pepper spray through the peephole would constitute assault.

Hair spray on the other hand...or any other "normal" product...wouldn't. It's plausible some might splash on the wall as the user applies it.

Of course, the perv ain't gonna go to the cops, either way. But pepper spray will make the ladies room inhabitable for a time.

That’s probably the best answer…in the moment, “get away from these creeps” is probably somewhat overwhelming.

Assuming some ladies' rooms are as nasty as the occasional men's room, the pepper spray can be an improvement.

Someone once discharged their bear spray in the Glacier Nat'l Park visitor center- I have an idea how bad it can be.

Just a random thought...people who do such things kinda try to be sneaky about it. And small town news people often have slow news days. So maybe mentioning it to a local to them tv station or newspaper might give a bored reporter something to do...and if they find it they'll have some fun with it. Depending on what they find, the business owner and/or kid may wish you'd just have used pepper spray or called the cops.

Call the police.

Officer, I just needed some way to hold my pen so I had both hands free to dig in my purse for a writing pad. Jamming it in that hole looked like a convenient solution. I had no idea someone's eye was on the other side.

I chuckled...and wanted to give a "thumbs up" but it seems to me that then the victim could get accused of doing the peeping and recording
I think @JjCc Jay and others have it right...even if not as 'funny' as some of the other suggestions. call the cops + tell management

We have the internet now. This is like rummaging the kitchen floor for a week-old broccoli piece in a restaurant giving out free steaks.

Rule 34.
The person on the other side of the peephole is probably uploading "content"

Maybe I'm unfamiliar with the, ahem, full menu of transactions available at a gas station restroom, but... I'm gonna classify the resultant content from an adjoining restroom peephole as low low quality.

...not to yuck anyone's yum.
