Garmin's iPad app

If Apple didn't think the iPad would be wildly successful, they wouldn't have done it. Apple isn't in the habit of launching products that fizzle.

Apple hasn't had any major flops recently, but they certainly have ones that aren't "wildly successful." Mac Mini and AppleTV come to mind as things they're selling right now that aren't "wildly successful" but as they do turn a profit, they're still around.

Over the course of their history, though, Apple has had some major flops. Lisa, Apple III, Newton, QuickTake, Apple CD SC, Pippin, etc... And there's a reason that probably only long-time Apple geeks know what half of those are. They were some technological breakthroughs, yes, but didn't have the right implementation or marketing to become the kind of consumer success we're used to seeing from Apple today.

So back to the Garmin App just to be kind to the poster who wants to keep the thread on-topic...

Besides the Garmin brand name, what features does it bring to the table that would make someone switch from either of the existing two solutions who've got significantly more to lose if their iOS products lose market share?

Garmin could decide the iOS product is a flop and shut it down tomorrow. There's a lot more reasons not to do that for the other two companies since it would likely mean folding the entire business.

I'm not sure I trust it. Kinda feels like the art of diplomacy. Saying "nice doggy" while you reach for a bat.
