Garmin software out of date (GNX 375)

So, the software is out of date on my GNX 375 (main board is 3.03 and 3.10 is current and the transponder software is 2.53 and 2.54 is current). These can only be updated by the dealer.

A few questions-
1) is this something dealers generally charge for?
2) how important is it to keep my unit updated?

yes.

it really isn’t unless there are additional features you want or noticeable bugs corrected. Interfacing new equipment may require certain level of software or later to support integration. The real fact of the matter is, unless there is an AD requiring it you really don’t have to do any of them.

rarely database formats change and requires newer software to function.
