Announced at Oshkosh, if you have a Garmin EIS you can now download your EIS data and send to Savvy for a free analysis.

If you like Garmin and Savvy, might be of interest. Any other combination, never mind and carry on.

I have been sending Savvy the data from my G1000NXi for a year now. But I didn't know about the free analysis! I'll take a look...

I also send the data to www.Flysto.net for free. Flysto gives you engine data and flight reports such as when autopilot goes on/off and nearby ADSB traffic, to name a couple... And it can show you a simulation of your flight!

You have always been able to do that.

What IS new, if if you also use Garmin Pilot, at the end of the flight, the system will download the EIS data to your GP device, which will automatically upload it to Garmin when it has wifi. And now Garmin will auto forward that data to Savvy.

What???? Are you saying this announcement was mainly marketing hype?? Garmin would do that ??!!! :)

Here are some of the details...

Aircraft owners can access their flight logs via flyGarmin.com, where they can review flights, playback data and more. With new flyGarmin.com integrations, aircraft owners can now opt-in to share their flight logs automatically with many different service providers. Examples include aircraft and flight analysis, engine performance and trend analysis, aircraft record keeping and maintenance services, aircraft scheduling and more. Analysis services supporting this integration option include:

FlySto
Crewchief Systems
Savvy Aviation
Flight Schedule Pro
novoFlight
Navi

All data analysis integrations are managed through flyGarmin.com. Once sharing is enabled, all current and future flight logs for the selected aircraft will be automatically shared with the service provider. Access to future logs can be changed at any time. Additionally, flyGarmin.com users that connect their accounts can take advantage of new offerings from Savvy Aviation and Crewchief Systems at no additional cost. With SavvyConnect, aircraft owners are provided a suite of key diagnostic reports that help users monitor their engine’s performance. Crewchief Essentials helps aircraft owners digitize, organize and share aircraft records, as well as monitor AD compliance and more. For an even greater understanding of aircraft and engine performance, additional subscription options from these service providers are also available.

Aircraft flight logs are available on flyGarmin.com today for aircraft owners using compatible Garmin avionics. Integrations with data analysis services are expected to become available on flyGarmin.com beginning in August, with more becoming available in the second half of 2025.

I like it! Going for a flight and having all the pertinent information sent to my accounts at FlySto and Savvy without any actions on my part is pretty darned convenient. Should definitely help with engine monitoring.

I have a G1000 NXi and currently remove the data card each month and upload that data to Flysto and Savvy at the end of each month. I use Foreflight and also have Garmin Pilot.

I assume to make this work, at the end of each flight, with the G1000 on, I will have to open Garmin Pilot and download all the flight data, via FS-510. Once saved to the Garmin Pilot app and when next connected to the Internet and open the Garmin Pilot app, it will automatically upload the data to flyGarmin.com then automatically send it to Flysto and Savvy for me...

I'll certainly give it a try once the app is updated!

FlySto is fantastic. Tons of "fun" features, and also very good at identifying hazards that you might not have even noticed yourself. I've been quite impressed with it.

If you have an iPad with a cell data plan (I use Google Fi for everything, as the data sims are free on my plan), it's incredibly slick. I took a flight this last weekend, and by the time I got home everything had been uploaded to both Savvy and FlySto. Very cool.

Was Garmin pilot app open during your entire flight? Or did you open it at the end of your flight?

I use Foreflight not Garmin pilot, but I also have Garmin pilot. So I assume at the end of my flight as I'm parking the plane I can just open Garmin pilot and at some point the data will automatically download to Garmin Pilot before I power off the G1000... And likely have to leave Pilot connected to cellular for awhile...

Ah, yes, I fly with GP, so it's open prior to engine start and turned off after shutdown. For my set-up (GNX-375 and multiple GI 275s), it's necessary to have GP open the whole time since the flight and engine data are streamed in real time to my iPad. I don't think there's any on-board storage. Once I've landed and GP concludes that my flight is done, it immediately uploads everything.

In your instance, I think you're correct in that you'd open GP, transfer the data, and wait a few moments for GP to upload the logbook entry with the associated data. In my experience, the upload is within seconds of GP having it over a simple cell connection. Probably everything is finished within 30 seconds of completing the flight?

There's definitely onboard storage. I download the data from my GI275 every so often by plugging a USB stick into the port under the panel (I don't have the GSB15), powering the GI275 on, opening the menu, and going to System -> Export Logs.

Per the manual, 1GB is about 1,000 flight hours worth of data. The limit to the on device storage in the GI275 isn't given, but it implies that it can hold more than that.

It's not clear from the documentation that this is possible. In fact, it says the exact opposite: "For the Flight Data Log to be available upon landing, Garmin Pilot must be running for the duration of the flight." (Per the GI 275 Pilot's Guide, Rev S, section 8.4.)

Yeah, this is a bit confusing. I read that as the Flight Data Log being streamed to GP during the flight, so it's available at the conclusion of the flight. I presume that the data would also be available via USB if there was on board storage, as I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between getting the data in real-time and getting in a lump via USB. In either case, the subsequent upload could occur and then be send out to FlySto and Savvy. My understanding is that it's pulling the flight/engine data from the Garmin logbook entry. Does the logbook entry in GP not occur unless GP is open in flight?

There is onboard storage and you can pull the data back as far as you want unless you manually delete it... But only via USB.

There is *not* a way to tell the GI275 "Send all the data to my iPad right now" so you can't get the whole thing after the fact. I think what they mean is that the only way the GI275 sends the data via bluetooth is via real-time streaming, and that Garmin Pilot is handling the storage of the data on the iPad in that case and sending it later.

I don’t have Garmin EIS so we resume regular programming.
You do not specifically need Garmin EIS to use FlySto, Savvy, FlightData, etc...

FlySto's list of compatible avionics is here and FlightData's is behind the "Compatible Aircraft" button on their site. I'm sure Savvy has a similar listing.

FWIW, I find FlightData to be nice when analyzing engine data and how it relates to the other aircraft data (CHT vs speed for example), but FlySto is REALLY good for analyzing your flying. It'll warn you about things like incorrect altimeter settings, encounters near other traffic and wake turbulence, and other things you might not have noticed.

What if you have two different sources? - I have a JPI engine monitor and Garmin flight data. Any way to combine the two in FlySto?

FlySto will auto-combine them if you have two sources that they support. Unfortunately, they don't yet support my Insight engine monitor.
