How easy is this to fix? The weird thing is that it seems to have too much material... it does not fit in the space available and the seal does not slide fore and aft. I assume there is a bead that is inserted in the gap... but in this 1-2" section there is no bead... but there is a rim so I assume it just tore/decayed.

Mods: maybe you can change the title to wing root seal.

just cut that area out and glue the 2 ends with good rubber cement i use the car windshield stuff

If you cannot pull the entire strip towards trailing edge of wing and trim, sometimes you can 'work' or massage the bubble back into the groove pushing on either side to make room. Takes some time and considerable patience

Step 1- cut
Step 2- glue
Step 3- have beer to celebrate job well done

provide a straight cut across the rubber seal.....trim to length....apply contact cement to both rubber and aircraft surfaces....allow contact cement to dry without surfaces touching.....then, about 10 minutes later press together.
