Howdy fellas...

Question:
So i’d like to install a G5 HSI on my C172 (14 volts panel) but I see there are 2 types:
One is a G5 DG/HSI and
One is a G5 DG/HS with GAD 29B GPS
Interface adaptor ( for autopilot
Equipped aircraft)
I do not have an autopilot and I don’t want one but I do want the GPS interface option to link it up to my 430W.

Will it be possible to just buy the regular DG/HSI and still be linked to the 430W? There is a $700 difference between the two all because that autopilot option....

Thnx

There is a GAD29 that is all that is required for HSI with a 430w, it's only $499.99 according to the garmin site.
Also, because the G5 can be installed without an avionics shop, you can download the install manual and see all the different possible setup options.

(page 19) "For installations where the G5 HSI is being used for GPS NAV, the G5 will be installed with a Garmin GPS navigator and the GAD 29/29B"

If you can't get an HSI kit with a GAD29 the GAD29B will do what you need.

I don't think they package an HSI kit with the straight GAD29 anymore.

You need the GAD29 to get the ARINC429 data from the 430. Doesn’t matter which version, but the cost doesn’t change, and you can’t get the non-B any more.
