Probably not a good day for a ride in a hot air balloon either . . . unless your name is Dorothy, and you have a little dog named Toto.

Perfect conditions to experiment with the endless discussion about ground speed vs air speed in the traffic pattern.

Braking is excellent in 5 feet of water.

Macabre humor aside, it will take a while to recover from this devastating blow. I hope everyone has managed to stay safe, and that our country and others will be generous and respond and come to their assistance as needed in the coming days.

Awhile is an understatement...... It will be a year before some sort of normalcy will appear. Think Puerto Rico after Maria, but much worse because BHS has no real legal ties to us.

The crosswind component probably puts every airplane ever made into the “experimental” category!

I really hope everyone down there is ok.

I spent some time in Freeport about 2 1/2 years ago. They were just recovering from a previous hurricane. Sad what is happening now.

If by unique means getting mugged, roofied and robbed, hit over the head and wallet taken, offered drugs on every corner and pan handled mid block, then ya, it's unique I suppose. If you never leave Atlantis, it's a great place!

Even if you stay in Altantis you’re about as broke as if you had been mugged.

Me too. Went there several years ago for a re-creation of Nassau Speed Week, which featured a hillclimb too. Saw Sean Connery there at a small concours that was part of the event. Didn't want to trouble him for an autograph, but I did say something to the effect of, "Sir, I really admire your work."

Some of the images they’re showing on the Weather Channel of the devastation is unreal, especially in Abaco. My thoughts are with those folks.

I dunno about all that, we stayed in Nassau for our honeymoon almost 5 years ago. We had a blast (honeymooning aside). Spent a few days at Atlantis to do the waterpark/expensive restaurants stuff, then moved over to the Nassau Hilton for the rest of the week to stay a bit more out of the tourist traffic (as much as one can in Nassau). Granted, we didn’t try and venture too far off the reservation, but we met plenty of nice people and were there during Halloween which was fun as well.

If we went back to Bahamas, we’d probably try to go to one of the outlying islands to escape most all of the cruise ship tourism part, but I wouldn’t tell anyone to avoid Nassau, but just know what to expect in a country which exists pretty much solely due to tourism.

Same experience here. I’ve passed through Nassau a handful of times and have never felt unsafe at all. The waterpark at the Atlantis was a lot of fun and the straw market is always a favorite.

Agree that if you don’t venture out beyond the radius of the tourist area, you’ll be okay.

Highly recommend Exuma. My parents, my brother and I went for his graduation present. Beautiful island, secluded and not touristy like Nassau is. Plus you can rent boats for dirt cheap all day (22 footer for like $300 for 8 hours) and cruise around the islands and find some cool sand bars

Would you be surprised at seeing a N numbered aircraft in the Bahamas? Although a little more unusual, why are you surprised at seeing a boat registered in FL in the Bahamas?

It may be that in the Bahamas no boat registration is required. Bring a boat with some funny writing on it and no one cares at all?

Private boats in the UK require no registration of any kind for use in the sea. Some inland waterways require registration.
