Foreflight is kicking some butt

There is a way to use the hold feature with the 175/355/375 series gps units. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with 430/530 also. It kinda sucks, but it works.

After creating the hold, click on it and choose expand hold. That creates a series of waypoints that represent the hold rather than an actual hold.

Expanding the hold. Click on the hold and hit the bottom option “expand…”

But if you do it this way, will it stay in the hold for multiple laps, or just fly one lap around and then exit? My guess is the latter.

The later. That's why it kinda sucks. You would have to go find and activate the leg again to stay in the hold.

It doesn't look like much use. Probably best either:
  1. Get a panel-mounted GPS that supports holds, like the GTN or IFD.
  2. On older GPS's (like the GNS), use OBS mode for the inbound leg of the hold, and alternate between heading and nav mode in your autopilot (it's not actually very hard to do).
