Flying Wild Alaska, July 13

That pilot placed him self in a very bad position. he now can be arrested for aiding and abetting a criminal.

Is there any such crime as "aiding and abetting a criminal"? I've heard of aiding and abetting a crime, and it seems plausible that knowingly aiding a fugitive could be illegal, but neither of those circumstances appear to apply in this incident.

he should have involved the police directly by radio that he had a drunk on board with a bottle. They would have met the aircraft and solved the problem.

When did you add cop and prosecutor to your resume? I didn't watch the show, but from what I'm reading here it sounds like he prevented a crime by not allowing the drunk to smuggle the bottle in the first place.

Well he confiscated the bottle, so prevented the smuggling. I would put more faith in his knowledge of how "things are done" up there than in anybody else's (outside of Alaska) opinions on how things should be done.

True dat!!

The pilot probably wasn't sure there would be LE at the destination. Most of the outlying villages have "Public Safety Officers" that observe and report, but they need to get a state trooper in to make an arrest. I'm just pulling this memory out of my...er head, but I recall being told each trooper has an area about the size of Kansas to patrol if you divide the state up evenly, which they don't.

If I recall, the PSOs can detain someone until the trooper arrives, so they have some sort of arrest-like powers.

You are correct, and at times they do not effect an arrest because they have to live in the village among the families. I suspect there may have been more to the scenario that was shown, ( I don't watch the series anymore, too much drama). I was just throwing out the possibility that the pilot, knowing the lay of the social land in the destination didn't want to leave it for the PSO, and also was exercising his authority as PIC to not haul a drunk.

Been paining through the latest 6 episodes. Fake drama is the same as to be expected. What has made the show even worse is all the commercialism. The brand flashing of sponsors is a little too much.

Is it true that season 3 will be it for Flying Wild Alaska? From the Discovery website:

"In the series finale, after 30 years of running Era Alaska, Jim Tweto sets his eye on a new path. Doug loses all avionics while flying over the North Slope. Ariel comes face to face with the FAA in the last step of getting her pilot's license."

Is it possible that maybe ERA has now seen the show as a liability because of all of the "drama moments" the show has aired? I was once told by a United Airlines pilot that many captains turn off the inflight entertainment channel for passengers that monitor pilot communications with ATC for fear some passenger may use it in a complaint or suit.

I just tweeted Ariel and she said they didn't know yet whether they would be filming a fourth season.
