Flying long haul privately

I used to work for a major trucking company. We often had a full trailer go from West Coast to East Coast and vice versa. The company had a whole department of sales people lining up loads for the return trip so they didn't have to dead-head. I suspect the bigger air charter companies do the same thing.
It's pretty uncommon in trucking for a customer to pay for an empty return or repositioning, though, whereas it's standard in aviation to pay for that.

That said, the bigger/more expensive birds don't sit and don't return to base as often as the smaller ones, so a full round trip with an empty leg is probably less common.

There are magazines where charter companies will list their hourly rates, empty legs are a option but going INTO HKG from the US I don’t see that being a common empty, it’s far enough I would see it more being a fly the pax there, hang out, fly them back

Jets you’re looking at for that non stop are like $12,000hr, flight time is prob 11-12hrs ish, you’d have to have a argument crew prob one extra pilot, all FBO fees and intl fees etc

Well, a lot of places will charge customer A for repositioning the airplane back to home base, then pick up a charter at least part of the way back so they can double dip.

From my experience in the seedy underworld of part 135 retail charter, brokers are about three steps below used car salesmen.
