Hi everyone, my first post.

I like to set challenging goals to learn new things, so in July 2019 I set a goal to get my pilots license. I had ONLY planned to get my PPL ASEL, worked hard at training and studying, and I passed my PPL checkride in early Oct 2019.

BUT, I quickly got addicted to flying and set a goal to get my instrument rating before the end of 2019, then set a goal fly helicopters, and another goal, and another. Now, I’ve got multiple class/category ratings and endorsements and I’m a CFII. I’m not pursuing an aviation career as I’m called and love what I do, but I’ve definitely got the flying bug ;). Today, my aviation goals are less about ratings and more about experiences (locations, airplanes).

Along this short journey, I’ve already met and flown with so many amazing people in the aviation community, and had the opportunity to fly several cool planes and a handful of helicopters. I decided to count how many types of aircraft I’ve flown and I’m currently at 30 unique types. It’s a fairly wide range from a PA28 trainer to LJ31 jet, T-6 Texan warbird or R22 helicopter.

I’ve decided to set a new aviation goal: Fly (and log time) in 100 types of aircraft.

There are many “common/popular” types aircraft (like a bonanza and baron) I have not flown yet, but I’m sure I’ll need to find quite a few unique or rarer types to get to 100. It will take some time, but it’s the type of goal that will also let me meet a lot of new people and prob take me to some interesting places. If you’ve got any recommendations of planes, helicopters, hot air balloons ;), etc that I can add to “to-fly list” let me know. I live in OKC, but happy to fly to wherever for a new/unique experience.

Wow, you went from zero to CFII in about a year and a half? That is very very impressive. Especially for someone who is not making aviation a career.

What endorsements do you have? Tailwheel? If not, get that. ASES/AMES? Those would be cool and open up a new range of aircraft to get in your logbook.

I am assuming here that you aren't trying to get time in 100 different types, rather just different makes/models of aircraft. If you are going for time in different types... well... Here are your options: https://registry.faa.gov/TypeRatings/

Thanks,

I have Tailwheel, HP/Complex, High Alt, RVSM endorsements. Plan to add ASES and AMES this year.

As far as “types” are concerned...I’m considering it a type for my count if it has a unique ICAO type designator. It could be unique models, but I’m not counting a Cessna 172M different than an 172L.

That is one of the things I like about instructing is I get to fly a lot of different airplanes.
I am somewhere around 120 different types, and still haven't flown a Bonanza. Not sure why, other than the one opportunity I recall I was given a choice of doing a flight review between the Bonanza or the Harman Rocket. I chose the Harman Rocket.
Below is a list of most of the types I have flown and the time I have in them.
My 172 time just recently exceeded my HP16t (my previous glider) time.

Brian, that’s a lot of types! Impressive. I hope to add a glider rating too someday.
