Anyone else notice the new map/route display when tracking a flight?
Seems you can now zoom in and out and pan around by clicking and dragging the map. Very similar to Google Maps.

Very Cool!

I saw it the other night... I was on AA144 when we did a go-around from final at IAD - and then did tight circles south of the airport.

yeah I can now zoom in and inspect my holding patterns in greater detail then I might like. :D

Rob: Go check any flight you'd like, live or already completed, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Interesting. I just look at my flights from yesterday. It's neat to see in such detail how good of a job we did (or didn't do) of picking our way around storms. Cool feature, I like it!

Oh, I really like this. Cool improvement.

Very cool. I hadn't looked at it until today, me likey.

I'm not sure how good flightaware is at rendering the weather. Obviously the weather moves while you move and since it is a static image I'm not sure how they display it. When the airplane is in flight they display the current radar image. Once it's landed it is probably the image after it landed. Looking at the trail versus the cells at that point is worthless info.

I always thought the weather was just the current weather regardless of when the flight was. IOW, only good to watch the weather if the flight is live.

I might be wrong though.

That could be. I've never looked at it that close. For the most part though it will be in-accurate. You just can't display the right info with one image. You'd need a time based animation.

ok, looks like it is a snapshot of the weather at the time you arrived.
