Funny story I thought I would share.
This morning my daughter had a connecting flight out of KLGA so being the good father (and husband) I kept track of of her flights so I could keep moma updated. Well about 5 minutes after departure I see the plane dropping a few thousand feet and making a quick U-turn back to the airport. This is the moment where you question if you should have just waited for her call when she landed at her destination, but instead I just keep watching the plane track/altitude with a slight sinking feeling.

Then jump on ATC live to see if I can hear any chatter with approach or tower (timing was off or I could not get the right frequency so I did not hear anything)

I see the plane land and immediately get this text

Daughter ="Dad I know you were watching our flight so It was no surprise we made and emergency turn around cause the galley door did not latch and pilot had trouble with pressurization but I am safe"

Dad = LOL you know me well thanks for texting

Daughter = They said it will be a quick fix but 1/2 of the plane is getting off after screaming crying and filling puke bags. The pilot did a great job and if he didnt say anything no one would have known but I was fine and told the guy next to me we could fly all day around 12000 feet with out cabin pressure so it was a technical glitch not a catastrophe"

Dad= You are my daughter

Daughter = Yes I am your daughter cause now I am annoyed we could have made it there since it is a 40 minute flight and we spent longer circling around to land.

Maybe she will want to be a pilot some day:D

Ahhh great kid! But I'm sure it did give you some pucker, Good think your wife was not around to hear you say huh What the ****?

Ha! That's a great post! Glad all is well. (I do the same thing) :D

We forgot to tell mom, and it slipped that the plane made an emergency turn around:mad2:

Anyone got an extra place at the dinner table tonight? I may end up with soup.....

Yep, I have room at the table, but it will be late. Have a lot of work to finish up. Have to reprogram some parts , cause a sloppy cad guy did some detailing wrong. Luckily I caught it before chips flew.

You've raised her well. As for those people who screamed and panicked, some of that is due to lack of education and some of that is due to being "educated" by the media. It's easier to panic than to understand reality. I like her comment that it would have been faster to go to the destination at reduced altitude than to return to the origin. I'm sure there is some rule that required the actual action, however.

Great story. I use FlightAware for parental stalking as well.

In 2008 or 2009 my daughter was returning from college for Christmas break. She departed Boston Logan on time, and everything looked great until i saw on FlightAware that her flight entered a hold over Lake Michigan.

I was at Milwaukee Mitchell (as in B-25) airport waiting for her, and sure enough saw that they closed the airport to plow the runway. we were having a snowstorm.

Then all of a sudden I saw her flight head due South, and I figured they had hit minimum fuel and left for their alternate. Sure enough, they landed in Indianapolis, and when my daughter called me when they landed, she texted me and said "Dad, I'm suuuure you already know this, but we diverted to ..."

FlightAware must have been invented by a fellow control freak dad. :)

Great post. I do the same thing when my family is flying commercial. I am a FlightAware Stalker:)

I asked my boss for her flight number when she was flying to India last year. She gave it to me without even blinking. I asked her later, you didn't even ask why I wanted it. She just laughed and said "I figured you wanted to look it up" I said "I did and look at the track of your plane getting there"

You have to love flight aware, just don't give the info to your significant other. And never show them how to get alerts on your tail number.
