My last two flight plans filled in DUATS have not made it to the LM FSS service when I go to open them. Both were VFR flight plans and they were no where to be found by the LM console operator. Anyone else having problems lately?

I am having to refile in the air and I hate doing that.

I haven't had any issues with DUATS losing my IFR flight plans recently...no experience with VFR versions.

Last 2 VFR flight plans I filed went MIA via DUATS as well. Those 2 I filed withing an hour of taking off. I seem to get better results via DUAT rather than DUATS though.

I've had two IFR flight plans lost back in January. Since then, no problems.

We all should have this number programmed in our cell phones:

LM Complaint line: 888-FLT-SRVC

Make sure you report it... they do review these at a weekly meeting. If we don't call, they won't know.

I have had issues where I call FSS to modify an IFR flight plan filed though DUATS and they say they can't access it.

I filed one complaint through http://www.afss.com and had a call from a supervisor to discuss it the next business day.

I've run into this as well. Of six DUATS IFR filings since March one was lost.

Yes, the VFR flight plan I filed via www.duat.com did not make it to the FSS specialist last time. I filed the evening of the 16th for a flight the morning of the 17th.

I registered a complaint on Lockheed Martin's AFSS site and got a call a few days later. The lady said she has seen this happening frequently and they are trying to investigate why the flight plans aren't coming through.

Meanwhile, I got confirmation from DUATS that the flight plan was supposedly transmitted to LM.

Then several days later I got yet another call from LM as if they'd never spoken to me before. Apparently not only do they have trouble losing flight plans but they can't even keep track of their customer service calls either.

I use DUATS filing to avoid having to talk to these people and it seems to have doubled the amount I have to talk to these people. Sigh... I hope they fix this.

VFR flight plan? What's that?

I'm better off having a family member call my cellphone, then a destination contact if need be, around our ETA. FSS can't seem to figure the whole process out. They've lost mine so many times, I decided to give up and haven't used them since (have only used two in my entire life). Plus in the northeast, I'm usually always on flight following and have direct lines to most of the ATC facilities.

Not trying to say nothing will happen to me, just that if something does, and I have a VFR flight plan with FSS, I'm dead.

Glad I am not the only one. On Friday I called for a briefing. I was flying from Traverse City, MI (way north) to the Chicago area going around the south end of Lake Michigan. I had to tell the briefer 4 times I did not need the Missouri and Arkansas METARS he kept trying to give me. Nor did I need the convective SIGMENT for Nebraska. GEESH!

Hmmm..

So far the system seems to be improving (now LAST year.. don't get me started)

So far the briefings have been accurate and complete.

I used to file online (AOPA Flight planner) but there's always time on the way to the airport (40 min drive) so I call and file then. So far it's been good (since April, at least).

Now Clearance Delivery ----

Worst was 45 Minutes on the ground at Shannon outside DC in February, on hold, engine running.

Ugh.

Losing flight plans filed via DUATS is not unique to LM. I had this problem when the FAA was running FSS, as well. And the club rules require filing if you are going more than 100 nm from OLM, or crossing the Cascades. Well, I filed. I guess there's no rule about opening it. Didn't lose much sleep, I had flight following from SEA center, anyway. Far more useful.

Is DUATS handled by LM or by Computer Sciences Corporation?

Three strikes in a row for DUATS filed flight plans. They lost another one today.

The one I filed online an hour before a flight last week went through. So the score is 1-1 for my last two plans.

File a complaint online through http://www.afss.com. They'll call you back. If you're like me they'll call you back twice because they forgot they called you back.

In General I've had better luck with Flight plans files through DUAT vs DUATS

Interesting, and worth raising a stink. I'm sure DUATS and LMFSS will point fingers at each other saying "It's their fault!" but something's broken. Since you started this thread on problems with VFR flight plans I've filed seven IFR flight plans through DUATS and every single one has been on hand at ATC when asked for. Something's broken in VFRland.

Regards,
Joe

Did that. We'll see what they find

I always file my IFR ones over the phone so I have not tried DUATS.

I was having a conversation with someone today that it might be related to my registration default in DUATS and the registration/callsign I file under.
