Stumbled across this and I am not sure how it works but they are mesmerizing.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I love mechanical things

My lathe instructor would have a few words with the guy in the first vid. Never reach over the turret when filing on a lathe, work from the other side so nothing on the turret or jaws can snag yer arm.

Funny how long ago lessons stick with ya.

I can't tell you how worried I was when I saw this thread title!

Especially considering that whole licking thing in the other thread. LOL. Suuuuuure it was your doggie... we believe you.

Your new Callsign is “Flame” now. LOL.

Greatly disappointed. "Licker" in your title so ****ing misleading.

Reported.

A company called Sunvention couples a stirling engine with a solar reflector to create mechanical energy for pumps and such in remote areas. Pretty cool concept, actually.

Stirling cycle is what you want to look up.

Are you sure? I only saw one piston in the first vid. I thought it operated on good ol' suck-squeeze-bang-blow except with an external flame instead of a spark plug.

Reading about Stirling cycle engines reminds me how **** poor my college level thermogodamics class really was. The instructor consulted for General Motors so he knew his stuff but couldn’t be bothered to teach it one bit. When I talked to him about it he just didn’t care. D stood for diploma on that one.
