Flew out over Lake Michigan today for my first flight over open water. I didn't venture too far offshore, but I have to admit that seeing nothing but water as far as the eye could see was just a little unnerving. Some very pretty scenery flying up along coastline. I landed at KBEH so I could add Michigan to my list of states that I have offended with my presence as PIC. This was one of the trips I had in mind when getting my PPL!

Nice! We flew across lake Michigan and then lake Erie and even over flew Canada on the way to Ohio. It was a first for us as well.

You live that close? Just plan on leaving early and hitting Ripon entry @7:45 am. You'll be the first one there.

Great advice.....

If I lived closer I would offer to ride right seat so he could break the ice...

Arrivals definitely ebb and flow. Right before and after the air show is busy but for about an hour. The weekend before the show opens has a pretty busy flow. During the week didn't seem too crazy. If you see a ton of planes just wait a half hour out at 20 nm out and come in when you are comfortable. Do it when you are ready and practiced your spot landings, go arounds and saying "unable."
