Departed home with a fully loaded Cherokee Archer...
Note: we always talk about useful load but what about useful volume? I was still more than 100# under gross but not any more room.

Found an opportunity to go on top of a scattered layer on the way out.... really cool being up there. Don't often see a good opportunity like this.

What's in those crates? You'd have more room if you just left the animals loose in the cabin.... :)

Aren't you in Quincy now?

One Corgi in the red crate and one German shorthair in the grey crate. They like to snuggle in the car..... too distracting for the air. Dogs are staying in KY and enjoying my in-law's farm for the duration so the next leg of this journey will be less cramped

Departure point was Quincy, the first pic is on the ramp at UIN this morning. Parked at 2i0 tonight. Will be hitting KPIM then KCGC tomorrow.

Well, I made it.
Closest thing there would be to a perfect day to get down here, I would say 90% of the flying today was in "sky clear" conditions with smooth air. We had some issues with a scattered layer forcing us down lower than I wanted to be over the the foothills near Chattanooga but not really a big deal, just a bit bumpy. Those hills do look a lot more threatening in real life to a flatlander than they do on the charts. I found a nice hole and went up and over in an "I always wanted to try this" maneuver, cruised over a pretty thick layer of cumulonimbus clouds and found myself soon back in clear skies near Atlanta's airspace.

Refueled at KPIM... $3.45/gal 100LL. Small but nice facility, pretty busy(gee I wonder why :D )

Mostly clear into crystal river, some clouds were over that area but nothing exciting, had to drop down to 3500 for about 15 minutes before starting a final descent. I was able to see the ocean for the last half hour or so of the flight which was pretty cool for someone who's never flown outside the midwest.

My altimeter read about 0 on the field.... that's a new one too :D

Ok, I know a lot of you do this kind of thing all the time but for me, this is a huge deal going all the way down here flying my own airplane. Been wanting to do something like this ever since I passed my checkride.

Oh, here are some pics :D
