Fighter jet guys....

Somewhere in a dusty drawer I have a dusty video of that happening on a shiny new TF-18. Yes, TF-18.

Nauga,
and his splitting headache

Correct me if I'm wrong.....TF-18 was the initial designation for what would ultimately become the F/A-18B, right?

Was serving as a target for F-16s, about 65 miles off Atlantic City, at night, in a 172. Kinda surprised how long one could hang there, just outboard and aft of my left wing. Weird thing - when he "bumped" us, pulling up in front, I could smell the JP-4 when he lit his burner. And feel his wake.

I also witnessed, during an evening commute, an intercept of some governer's twin, basically flying down Georgia Ave in Maryland, just outside DC. One F16 on his wing, the other in trail, just like the pictures in the book. I think it turned out the Fed agencies weren't communicating very well yet - something about his transponder failing, the FAA controller clearing him in, but another agency nit getting the word.
