Makes one wonder what happened. Looks like it was a little gusty.
i heard today that they thought this was due to the students seat not being locked and sliding back on takeoff. very sad

Wow, that's what I guessed, but didn't want to speculate. I always double check that the seats are locked with a vigorous wiggle before I taxi. This is why.
I heard a story about that in the town where I grew up. Kid went up solo, seat slid back, he instinctively pulled on whatever he had his hands on to stay forward, ....... . According to the story (could be OWT), he had enough momentum to carry it over the top and actually ended up upside down on the runway.
