It was this afternoon, a Cessna 172 owned by Randy Hall the airport manager. Went up for an instruction flight...one fatality one at the hospital. God bless the famies and those involved.

Sorry to hear your news. Don't worry, I hope the Arrrs disappear tomorrow once it's no longer Talk Like A Pirate Day.

that sucks. I think jack and I saw that 172 flying the day we flew in to York. My prayers are with the families of the those involved.

Both the pilot and the passenger were killed according to news reports late last night.

I wonder what the wx and winds were doing at the time of the crash.

Yesterday was a pretty decent flying day. I really doubt weather was a factor:

I flew over the wreckage today...pretty big burn mark on the runway. Im not wondering if it stalled after takeoff and just nosed straight into the runway...pure speculation...but thats my observation after seeing the wreckage...RIP

York, NE is one of my favorite long XC fuel stops. Super quick and very friendly, and it has the distinction of being the first place I did a real-life WAAS approach.

Was just there not even two weeks ago...sorry to hear the news.

Winds were 7-10 knts, no gusts (I was flying 35 miles away) severe clear, a nice day to fly.

Dave Biba was the name of the instructor killed along with an older new student. Dave a was a good instructor, a nice guy, and a friend. He loved aviation and teaching by the book.

Not real sure what happened yet, but as the above post states it appears a sever stall on take off or T&G. The 172 in the incident had just had a new 180HP Lyc. factory reman engine installed (was 160HP). This is what is so confusing, and sad.

A student of Dave's that had a lesson on 9/17 said power on stalls were difficult due to the new power.

I guess we will find out what happened.

Lets careful out there.

i heard today that they thought this was due to the students seat not being locked and sliding back on takeoff. very sad :(

Wow, that's what I guessed, but didn't want to speculate. I always double check that the seats are locked with a vigorous wiggle before I taxi. This is why.

I heard a story about that in the town where I grew up. Kid went up solo, seat slid back, he instinctively pulled on whatever he had his hands on to stay forward, ....... . According to the story (could be OWT), he had enough momentum to carry it over the top and actually ended up upside down on the runway.

Well, the easy way to tell if it's an OWT is to look on the NTSB database... Any plane that ended up upside down like that would have to have been substantially damaged...

Cessna Seat AD #378 in 3, 2, 1...

We have so many seat AD's it's disgusting. Track replacements (and they still suck), lawyer locks, and the latest is an intertia real mounted under the seat attached to a seat belt that's bolted to the floor. Completely, totally, ghetto.

I make my students rock the seat before taxi and again just before run-up.

didn't want to speculate on the cause of an accident? You must be new around here...
