I bought the book and highlighted and marked all the sections stated as suggested for private.

So regarding part 61, it lists the sections. But then, if I peruse further in that chapter, there's Subpart E - Private Pilots.

Why wouldn't this be included in the suggested reading list?

    Thanks,

    D

I have no idea what was in the list or how the author of the list made its choices.

The book was published by ASA. I'll provide a snapshot of the recommendation page.[IMG]

    Got it.

Subpart E deals with the requirements for getting a private certificate - all the stuff you did and logged before being allowed to take your checkride. While the Examiner will go through your logbook to confirm you met the requirements and may ask you questions about specific items, the focus and the ACS tasks are on what you must do to keep current and your privileges and limitations as a private pilot. Those are not in Suboart E but are in the sections in the list.

I disagree. Why you're unlikely to be asked about or even need to know once you get your license about the certificate eligibility (knowledge, experience) sections of the Subpart E, 61.113 is VERY IMPORTANT and you can expect to be expected to understand it.

Yeah. I understand that 61.113 is needed, and that wasn't my question in general. The book did list 61.113 as recommended.

I was wondering why subpart E wasn't listed, as a whole, as recommended reading.

Because they don't list entire subparts, only the "highlights". Most people will not need to study what they need to do if they're based on a small island or live in Alaska, etc.

I suspect it is because neither the written test nor the airman certification standards has items pertaining to the rest of subpart E.

Just because something isn't listed as a "must study" doesn't mean it is something you never need to concern yourself with in your aviation education.

You can always get the PDFs. The AIM is available on the FAA site either as an entire document or broken up by chapters. You can pull individual parts (and even subparts if you want) off the GPO site for the FARs as well.

I found that out a week after i bought the book.

Im a bit old school tho, when i study i need a real book that i can highlight. I had textbooks in school and college.

Anyway, if i knew i could get a pdf i would redact everything not pertaining to my current objective and rinse & repeat foe future certs. Then print it out at kinkos.

Anyway there's no use in crying over the medium.

As long as i learn and adapt safe habits in the cockpit and avoid complacency I'm good.

$7.99 is what I paid in the App Store... 4-5 years ago... It's a one time thing, a good deal, and you get updates constantly. Often faster than they get to the printing press. So you always have the latest edition at your thumb tips.
