FAA suddenly wants VA benefit letters?

After a few years of reporting that I receive VA disability benefits on my MedXPress (30% for arthritis), I got a letter from OKC today (2 weeks after my most recent AME visit) saying I'm good for another year, but upon receipt I need to send them all VA decision letters.

It seems odd. No deadline given, but it says 'failure to do so may result in delay of reviews of future applications.'

Did something change recently? Why are they asking for documentation now? I searched on the internet and the letter I got is a bit different from what the FAA has been sending to people who had been diagnosed or treated for mental health issues.

Years of people on VA 80%+ disability reporting "all clear" on their medicals. The FAA is finally catching up.

It wasn't just mental health, it was a lack of reporting issue regarding some of the VA grifters abusing the system, holding first class medicals whilst receiving VA rating compensation for conditions that would run afoul of the former without disclosing it. But that change happened a year plus ago, it's not that recent.

It's nothing to worry about, as long as you don't resemble the remark of course. Meaning, your VA decision letters and records should not reflect conditions you haven't disclosed to the FAA.

Which I have. But here's the part that bugs me:

MedXPress question asks if you receive disability benefits. But the FAA letter wants you to include decisions on conditions even if you were rated at zero and receive no benefits.

It sounds like they are fishing.

If you check yes for 18Y, you need to also list the conditions that are disabling. The benefits letter describes to what degree the conditions are disabling based on the C&P exam.

For most things (bone & joint, injuries, etc.) this is a nothingburger.

Insomnia, PTSD, and a few other conditions are a different story. Not necessarily disqualifying, but some additional information may be desired.

The FAA doesn’t care about your overall rating or the monetary award; they care about the diagnoses.

Don’t worry. The FAA won’t do anything unreasonable.

Promise.

No they are not. But you have to provide the whole document. And they have actually required that for the last eight years or so. This is soo not new.

So why am I just getting this request after 4 years of reporting every year for my class II?

A 30% disability for arthritis? Man, I need to dig out my DD214.

You say you reported the receipt if disability pay, but the MedXpress User Guide has included the guidance/direction to submit the specific disabling conditions/diagnoses since at least 2019 when I got my FAA medical back after coming off a career of DOD medicals. If you haven’t submitted that previously, you’re not meeting the FAA’s expectation of reporting.

You can look at this one of two ways; submit the letter and keep your medical or don’t submit and get your medical revoked.

Yeah. I left the military 10 years ago. Went through standard outprocessing and was originally given zero disability. Then about 5 years ago, out of the blue I get a letter saying they did an audit and reviewed my claim and assigned 30 percent for two 'sports' injuries. 20% for shoulder and 10% for a wrist.

Yes, I have reported the specific conditions/diagnoses. Based on what Bruce posted, it sounds like the issue was my AME never asked for any of the paperwork and OKC is catching up.

Don't read too much into my post. I was simply asking WHY I was getting this letter after 5 years of annual medical submissions and Bruce answered that.

This was never about whether or not to comply with the letter.
