FAA sent new CFI cert anyway

I read that the FAA was not sending new CFI certificates, and the old one with a FIRC certificate would do.

But they sent me a new plastic card anyway...........after my FIRC.

I wonder why?

Your new certificate won't have an expiration date on it.

That one's easy. Because your old certificate had an expiration date and the new ones don't. So you got a new one without an expiration date. You won't get a new one next time around.

Are you sure? The reg removing the expiration date went into effect December 1, 2024. Seems a little early for you to renew if your old one was issued after that. Not even close to the 3-month FIRC window to keep the same privilege expiration date (which won't appear on the certificate).

Do you still have the old certificate? I'd love to see a pre-12/1/2024 certificate without one. If you do, don't forget to take a picture of the back where the expiration date used to appear.

Mine that was issued in Aug 2024 has the expiration date on the back after where it says it must be accompanied by my pilot cert. What does your old one say there?

You are in decent company. It may be a little surprising, but failure to look on the back of certificates is not that uncommon.
