I lost my medical due to cancer surgery, I have passed my Dr. Medical and it has been deferred by my Dr.to the FAA for approval.

Does anyone know how long it normal tokes the
FAA to review and approve issuing my medical?

Im in the process of a routine SI now. It took 6 weeks for them to get around to reviewing it. Luckily i had my ducks in a row and sent them all the docs they usually request up front. Now they just want one more note from a doctor. Hopefully it doesnt take another 6 weeks to get that reviewed.

Yes, it was a job getting all the paperwork assembled, but I'm sure they will think of something.. I'm the only one in a hurry, haven't been up in 6 months..

The significant parts to this are

1. An AME who is your true advocate and provides a list of what to get from the treating doctors
2. A complete and well organized submission that fills all the required boxes and created so the lower level reviewers can approve
3. An AME who is your true advocate and will call OKC on your behalf to determine progress.

Drs. Bruce and Lou can comment on the current backlog, but we have heard that CAMI is still running short of optimum number of major doctors and minor reviewers to handle the total quantity of submissions, let alone the more challenging SI ones.

And you can call CAMI, 405-954-4821, as an "interested airman" to inquire about your submission. Your call will be logged and on the third call on a non consecutive day, you can request a bump in priority. No guarantee it will be granted, but some airmen have reported it helped.

And not a single "call Dr. Bruce". I'm impressed....

Since he has already seen an AME, the exam has been done, and the info packet sent to OKC, I don't think there is anything that Dr. Bruce could help with.

It's like making a good pot roast in the crock pot... gonna take a long while until it's done, but when it is, mmm mmm good!

I believe Bruce has pointed out that under the new rules, the FAA won't allow AMEs to grease things for third class anymore. On the otherhand, the backlogs these days are much improved over most recent memory. The FAA is finally gotten to the point of meeting their own woefully inadequate performence standards.

Glad to hear you beat the big C....

Congrats on trying to get back in the air...

the cancer was minor, the damage from radiation was major 56 days in hospital major surgeries removing dead tissue from radiation burns. never do radiation unless your life depends on it knowing it might also kill you..
