Every Pilot Should Read This

End welfare for pilots. ATC is for pansies anyway. You want someone to hold your hand you are going to have pay for it yourself. Same as an escort girl. Spare me the fuel tax whine plenty of pilots buy fuel then don't use hand holding we are tired of subsidizing your feminine way of flying around constantly yakking on the phone.

I'll keep up the fuel tax whine. The service is there, and it's a fair way of maintaining that service in such a way that it exists if you need it. That article is pretty old though - 2002?
 
Assuming for a moment that the fees were of a reasonable amount I see two huge problems with user fees.

1. It would increase the number of NORDOs out there. I realize you can fly safely without a radio but the safety consequences of a bunch of people flying around without talking to each other should be obvious.

2. Collection- how would it be done? Surely not just by radio, anyone could just use anyone else's tail number, ATC could copy it down wrong, that seems like a complete mess. Is someone going to come out to the uncontrolled fields and write down tail numbers? What about the controlled fields, is the tower going to take time from their duties of preventing traffic conflicts to read tail numbers through a pair of binoculars and log them? This all seems like a complete mess.

Then what, do I get a bill in the mail at random intervals? Great one more thing I have to keep track of. Will I have to sign up for a subscription? Better but again that seems to be asking for some "tail number sharing".


I don't see a good way to do it.
 
Having the pilots pay for atc service doesn't insure that the service will get any better ,or be adequate when needed..once the govt gets their hands in your pocket the prices will only increase while the service decreases.

Except, I bet you anything , fuel taxes are not going to end.

Don't disagree, except this time around it is being proposed by the Aviation sub-committee, not the President.

Also, the article points out a lot of reasons this is a BAD idea, not only in 2002, BUT, now and forevermore!

You must be new to the world, you think after they install BS user fees they are going to ELIMINATE other taxes, ba ha ha ha, I got some real estate in Florida and a bridge up north I'll sell ya too!


There are only two reasons you wouldn't vote to stop user fees,
1 you're not very bright,
2 you hate aviation.

We still have to fund the infrastructure to make ATC services possible and that won't happen with this plan.
