This stuff was never an issue publicly until now..good grief do it for the love of country and the men and women who died to keep us free. If they don't like it go elsewhere....I'm so tired of this crap going on not just this thing but the minorities throwing a stink fit and getting what they want. Get over it!

Just say no to the bait...

Our constitution guarantees the right to peaceful demonstration, But you best be ready to receive full measure for your actions.

I think we can say Kaepernick is a moron without making a political statement. To me, protesting a perceived civil injustice by disrespecting one's own country is a non-sequitur.

Do schools still do the PoA (Pledge of Allegiance)?

The pledge died quite a while ago and now is rather unamerican and does not reflect our constitution.

Here is the American pledge.

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

More people should have the guts to stand up for what is right, like Kaepernick did. Does that make him a moron? No. The morons are the other sheep who just do whatever everyone else is doing.

I actually agree with your point, but what makes him a moron is the logic of the manner in which he is protesting.

Um, maybe you haven't seen but this issue has been public for decades. And why shouldn't minorities get what they want? I mean, I got government-assisted education, a house, good credit, a good job, a retirement plan, health benefits, I live in a good community with little crime, and most importantly I get to fly airplanes. I have it pretty good.

"Minorities" on the other hand due to institutional racism (the kind that's implicit that is tough to see) has put populations of color in difficult spot. Poor schools, inadequate services, few real job opportunities. If your option is to turn to crime to support yourself and those you love or completely try to swim upstream and emerge from the slums, let's be honest most people would turn towards the streets. Few among us have the will or capability to truly move up in terms of social strata. Most of us are content where we are or are incapable of elevating ourselves. We try, we hold those up who manage to do it, but it's really quite uncommon, and it's especially difficult in minority communities.

Many are working service industry jobs in the inner city for $7.25 an hour. Even with public assistance that is a tough way to get by. So when you have an easy score by moving some drugs or selling some guns or getting involved in prostitution, it's easy money. With that comes violent crime which due to what's mentioned above naturally adheres itself to poor black communities. So cops getting tough on crime have to get tough on a black people because law makers get elected by saying they're tough on crime. They don't get elected by getting tough of poverty or being strong on community outreach. So we see this manifested in police tactics that, thru no real fault of their own, target communities of color.

That has an institutional effect. It makes every black man a suspect because that's what we're all made to think whether we realize it or not. As a white man, walking down the street, I don't worry when a police car drives by. Women don't clutch their purses when I walk past. Men don't shuffle nervously by. People assume my best intentions because I'm a well dressed white male. That's my privilege.

Why shouldn't we ALL have that privilege?

The saying, "You have the right to say what you want. And you have the right to get what's coming to you", comes to mind.

He does have the right to not take part in the National Anthem. As far as I can tell, he's not disrupting it, he's sitting it out. But, his comments have drawn attention to that act, and in that way it IS a disruption.

edit: I've seen people sit during the Anthem at MLB games. I've always assumed it was a personal decision, and they have that right. Because he's claimed he's making a statement by not standing, then he's really doing it for the publicity. He could retreat back to the locker room or tunnel until it's over, but that's not his point.

Circular debates go in circles. My Granny said, "those convinced against their will are of the same opinion still".

Showing disrespect for your country as whole, with all the things we do right, for one of the few LOCALIZED problems that we do wrong, is idiotic.
