Quick theoretical question about engine mounts. Let's say that one purchased a plane that had a mid time 6 cylinder on it - either Continental or Lycoming - and you wanted to change it to a 4 cylinder (for instance swap an IO540 to an IO360). Assuming you stayed Continental to Continental and Lycoming to Lycoming, are the mounts the same for the different engines or would you have to have the engine mounts switched as well? Just bench racing (bench flying?)

Most engine models have their specific mount regardless of manufacturer. However the bigger issue for a 6 to 4 cylinder swap would be the alteration of the remaining portion of the aircraft: cowling, W/B, engine controls, performance, etc. The mount is the easiest part.

Fair enough! Thanks for the info. My engine swaps thus far have been limited to those that are going to stay on the ground!
