Anybody sold a plane on ebay, what is the good, bad, and ugly of selling your plane on ebay, I have a PA-23 150 nice airplane but cant draw flies to sell it, thinking of listing it on ebay with the other dogs.

I bought my Tri-Pacer there, sort of. Bid on it and lost. I contacted the winner who backed out and hooked me up with the seller. Worked out pretty good for both of us, but since it was out of the eBay loop, I was not committed to buying it until I got to see it. Not sure how I would have felt being committed to buy something sight unseen. Hope that helps.

Yep, successfully. Be very clear with your terms. For example, we required a deposit within 5 days, and pickup with the balance by cashier's check within 10 days. No delivery available, must provide your own ferry or fly it yourself. USA buyers only.

We provided as much detail as possible to help the buyer not waste our time. We sold it for what we were hoping for and the buyer took it right away. Your mileage may vary.

eBay was a successful venue for my Aztec when I sold it. The auction didn't get a buyer, but the representative of the A&P school that bought it contacted me from there and we made our deal over the phone.

I'd go for it. Yes, it's mostly lower end planes there, but that's what an Apache is (as was my Aztec).

Be prepared for tire kickers. Also consider the salvage yards as they are no nonsense and will probably give you more.

Note well: ebay vehicle sales are not binding. It is, rather, another advertising medium (and a pretty good one, at that). Think of it that way, and it's not so bad. Conduct the actual business in a businesslike way, and don't expect ebay to help in any meaningful way.

I still remember listening to your arrival on the delivery flight on LiveATC; I figured you'd do one last low pass, and I was right. Be lying if I said I did not have a wee lump in my throat as I envisioned, in my mind's eye, you pulling mixture and shutting down the engines on a fine airplane's very last flight.

Be lying if I said I didn't get a bit teary eyed when I pulled those mixtures for the last time. :(

Did you try Craigslist? We just sold ours on Craigslist and they don't require fees when you sell it

I've had good luck buying and selling on eBay. MUCH much much more interest generated there than on the for sale sites. I've bought one plane and sold one plane there. Neither time did I win/ sell through the auction process.

Exactly, it just kind of mixes up the order of things as you would normally do them, but you still have all the opportunity to inspect and reject, or renegotiate if you need.

I think he's been doing that for over a year now. POA isn't a particularly good place to market a plane unless it's a $9,500 152 that was just fully rehabbed and given a glass panel (although people would complain about the glass anyway). If you listed a 2000hr SR-22 for $50,000 you might get a couple of phone calls, but there would be people say it wasn't worth it because it was run out and needed a repack. A cheaper crowd than you find here would be a challenge to find.

Bought my first one off eBay sight unseen. I figured I would buy a plane then find an instructor to start taking lessons with once I got the plane home (850 nm away). Paid for a PPL buddy of mine to fly commercially up to NJ and brought it home within a few days...

I believe that I got lucky.... It was a mid-time cherokee 160 that actually flew very well. Within a year I listed it back on eBay and it sold (for about what I had in it) to a broker about 12 hours after I posted the auction (apparently I had it listed for the right price).

I bought my second plane from a broker in San Diego...

I would certainly consider buying from eBay again if/when I get another one.

One tip I would share is to put a phone number in the listing for questions.... You might get some tire kickers but you might find a buyer, too.
