Ebay going downhill fast

I'm no eBay fan, but your scenario is just as likely with Google.:yikes: How many times have you looked at something online and for days you see ads for that product or service wherever you go online? Happens everyday. If you look at a car on cars.com and make an inquiry via email, they sell that information to other dealers! I just found out about this last week, so I'll be canceling my cars.com ads.:nono:

Focused marketing is where everything is going and there is a lot of clamoring to get there first. I guess I have come to expect emails, spam, etc. based on some of my online behavior. I'll accept that in exchange for the free service those sites provide.

Calling my cell phone is just another level and totally unacceptable IMO.

I am not a Facebook user for the single reason that I knew eventually all of someones personal information, their life details, etc. would be sold as marketing material. People today seem comfortable posting every little detail of their lives on sites like Facebook. Some of these details I would not want out in public in a million years. I know of several people that didn't get hired for a job because of things they posted on Facebook. Considering how deep the marketing could go using all the information from a site like Facebook is eerie.

With all of these things, though, it's how you use them and what you say and don't say. I'm very careful about what I say online. If it's something I'm not comfortable defending in court or wouldn't want my mother to know, then I don't say it. A lot of people are real idiots when it comes to this. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it since I'm easily found on the internet. Google my name and the first several pages are all me, at least last time I checked.

Similarly with places to buy and sell goods, it's how you use them and knowing what to look for. Do it right, no big deal. It should be noticed by now that targeted advertising doesn't work on me since I've never bought anything from targeted advertising ever.

I think the younger generation, 20 somethings, seems to expect all their information to be public and they really don't seem to care.:dunno: I am on Facebook and I am VERY careful about any postings I make, I am a pretty conservative guy on a lot of issues, not all, but I don't post any political statements, jokes, cartoons etc on my Facebook. I have customers from all walks of life and all political persuations, it's easier not to say anything than to offend some of them. If anyone read 1984, and most of us did, it's a lot closer to reality than we like to think. Google and the other search engines and the internet providers know every move we make, every mail we send, every article we read, every item we shop for. Right now they use it for "marketing" and I for one am not real comfortable with them knowing so much about my boring little life.

My Facebook page is an alias that has never posted anything other than responses to a dozen or so things other people have originated. The kids and a few others know about the page, and I've friended a few people that are all now on ignore because they posted way more than I'll ever care about them.

And that's not even considering the fact that the Russian Mob is the second biggest stakeholder in FB.
