Today we were at AWO to help a friend buy his new 170. we arrived Ellie's diner at about 1145, for a noon lunch date with the seller and the buyer.
After all showed and I inhaled a pulled pork gut bomb and we were off to see the 48.

I had met this seller several times in the past few years at different meets here in the great northwest and knew he wanted to sell but also knew he was on and off again about selling, I had previously done a casual walk a round and the touchy feeling thing and thought it was a really nice 48 170. our friend was a previous 170-A owner and teaches T/Dragger transition and endorsements.
we did a preflight after looking at several things and the logs, and took it flying.
Off 34 up to 3500' left turn and once clear of the pattern to the west we tried to stall it. all it would do power off approach stall, was to mush straight ahead, with a steady 350' decent rate.
After leveling off we went back up to 3800' and tried to do a departure stall, after the power was up he pulled it back full travel, the airspeed went to 0 and after a bit it dropped the nose. it did not drop a wing, or try to turn, relieve the yoke and we were flying again. 200' drop.
Once around the pattern, and the buyer says " sweet aircraft" one more landing and we were back to the hangar, discovered one tiny discrepancy, the right side push to talk switch would not transmit, but the left was good.
when we put the aircraft back in the hangar, all was as we left it, the deal was done on a handshake.
just glad we could help, and got to go flying too, can't get any better than that.

Sounds like a good day. I flew a 170B a couple of times and thought it was a sweet flying airplane.

You really like those '48s :)

Was this one still fabric wing, or "metalised'?
Still has the O-300?

Metalized= I'd never advise a friend to buy a metalized 170.

the 48, it has never sat out side over night in its life, always stored in a heated hangar, has wing covers, was totally restored in the late 90's, engine is at 900+ SMO and is the original engine for the aircraft.
