The NTSB commended the EAA for going above the recommendations for making finding experimental aircraft instructors easier to find.

Training pilots prior to their fist flight seems like a no brainer, but the regs required the instructors to obtain an exemption from using E-ABs as trainers. That has changed and hopefully the accident rate will too.

Who needs training? Just get an RV that flys itself!

The FAA could go a long way toward fixing this by making it easier for instructors to get exemptions for their aircraft. But I agree, it is a very good step forward and one of the reasons I'm proud to be an EAA member.

Exactly.

This is a perfect example of "unintended consequences" . The FAA rules prohibiting instructors from using E-AB for training actually led to the deaths of pilots not getting the transition training they needed.

In agreement. To be honest, given the robust nature of experimental aircraft these days I don't see why some shouldn't be available for hire. That's an old, old rule based on a culture that has long since moved on.

Exactly right.

People get around this by forming partner ships anyway. You can't keep a partial owner of an LLC from flying his plane. :dunno:

Why not just rent them?
