Anyone know what would cause this.

shooting practice approaches and ILS tuned on GTN and the Dynon needle is showing away from the ILS

Since the needle was to the left, we had to correct to the right. Glad these were practice approaches. Is this a setting issue or an internal issue

What was your course set to? If it was accidentally set to somewhere close to the reciprocal of the inbound course a lot of units will automatically treat it as a back course and reverse the indications.

We were using autopilot so I’m assuming course was correct but could be wrong
Pilot error. Namely, the bolded part.

other than that, since a Localizer only has one "course" it's hard to tell what is going on. Has it happened before? Were you on "green needles" at that point or still following GPS? Was there a course reversal that wasn't cleared? Was a BC of REV button pressed?

If you "set it and forget it" and just "assume" It's right, it's hard to know. But remember the system only does what you tell it to.

Yep, the two issues:
1. An HSI will "reverse sense" if you have the course arrow pointed backward.
2. ILS transmitters to opposite ends of the same runway usually use the same frequency (but the ID changes).

Thanks for the replies Backcourse sounds likely the culprit. I'll confirm ILS too.
Your auto pilot was likely slaved to your heading bug and corse is set to a different bug so be sure you have both set up to a separate knob control so you remember to set them both separately. They both will display below the HSI one on the left the other on the right side
