Drunk Pilot

In college, after a lot of lab work, we determined the perfect level for shooting darts was 2.5 beers. :D

Enough to be loose and flowing, but not enough to start to become seriously uncoordinated.

and enough not to care about the score?

Now that's proper research!

Remember that there is no such thing as a "legal limit." The .08 (or .04) is only the "per se" limit where you are PRESUMED to be intoxicated. You can be convicted of DUI at any alcohol level.
I hear someone in the background yelling "Challenge Accepted!"

I found out that when windsurfing, even one beer was enough to make me wipe out more often. Whether it was due to impaired coordination or increased confidence ("I can pull that move off"...not) I don't know.

A few years back, someone on here claimed to have flown better and passed his check rides while under the influence.

Is that the guy that crashed and died recently? The one who was using an ipad as an airspeed indicator?

Completely off topic, but my understanding is that a heroin addict going through withdrawal more or less equates it to a lack of oxygen or water, and might not be able to do anything else but roll around on the ground making noises. I don't know that this would qualify heroin as a performance enhancing supplement in the general sense, though.

Lost a co-worker to a crash back in 2019 hit power lines few miles off the end of the runway at night in his 182. I went back looked at the NTSB report few years later said he was high on marijuana. Can't understand why someone would fly drunk or high he had just retired 2 years before.

That is the insidious thing about addiction; the fact of the disease destroys the ability to not partake in the intoxicating substance, and the presence of the intoxicating substance inhibits the kind of basic judgment that would otherwise preclude the dangerous behavior.

I've seen addiction destroy fine people; it is indeed a disease, not a behavior.

I had a friend who said, at 30 years sober, every day was another fight to keep away from alcohol.

Drinking had destroyed his family 30 years ago, and he went AA and never broke the rules.

His daughters remained faithful to him, and he is sober for them.
