How many urinalysis tests are done in the Aviation Industry each year? I don't know but I'm guessing a bunch.

What if someone in the test kit packaging plant decided to play a prank and smeared some drug laced resin on the inside of a collection cup? What recourse would the unlucky test subject have? I don't see any relief for such an instance since BOTH samples would be contaminated. That situation would totally screw an entire career.

Has anything like that ever been discovered? Or has every positive just resulted in a career change at great cost?

Don't you usually inspect the bottle before use? In all of the drug tests I have done for both the merchant marine and Navy, part of the test is opening the bottle and inspecting the inside to see if it has been tampered with.

Hmmm...or what if the lab technician just falsified or made a mistake on the report? Probably a more likely scenario, but would suck either way.

This reminds me of an incident in my ER. I had a 14ish y/o brought in by his mother for bizarre behavior who later admitted to smoking MJ for the first time. His UDS was reported out pos for MJ and cocaine. His parents went beserk on him (we just assumed it was possibly laced??). The lab called me later and somehow realized they reported the +cocaine on the wrong pt. When I contacted the pt's mother to inform of her and apologize about the mistake her response was great.."don't worry about it. It scared the living crap out of him and I'd rather him that way"

I have been subject to **** testing since the day it started, I have never heard of that happening, but there are protest and retest rules available. Plus it's not as simplistic as you suppose. It would likely appear as a 'Contaminated Test-Inconclusive' result. There are specific ranges it is looking in, plus dosing the cup with resin would not contain any metabolites. It would be discernible that it was a contamination issue when examined under scrutiny.

Those things are sealed, the one taking the test peals the lid off.

I also think with our company, if you test positive you can take a second test, or send it to a second lab, or something to verify it was positive.

My dad seems to always get drug tests whenever he comes back from Amsterdam:dunno:

Amsterdam is a good place to study for a drug test. Lots of fake stuff there just like any tourist spot...

(it was a joke, a joke I say)
