So first, a little background. I live in a rural area and commute 35 miles each way into the city for work, half of that is 2-lane state highway that is now in the process of being upgraded to 4-lane so there is active work going on. The traffic is crazy-heavy out here with all the oilfield activity and we have near-daily fatalities from stupid and/or inexperienced drivers getting in a hurry and taking chances. The locals and regulars have all learned to just dial it back and give it a couple more minutes, it's not worth the risk.
So yesterday after a particularly asstastic day at the office I'm driving home, and hit the area where it necks down from 4-lane to 2, and the speed limit drops from 75 to 65 (which also happens to be the county line). There is a jackass in a work truck riding my bumper hard and swerving around trying to find a spot to pass me but can't (wouldn't do him any good anyway, it's a solid line of trucks for the next 14 miles). This goes on for a while until we get to an intersection (with the double-yellow "never cross" lines on the highway) and he jumps on it, passes me and the two trucks in front of me at the same time. He's merging back into the right lane at around 100 mph (again across the double-yellow line) just as my radar detector is chirping at me and I see our local sheriff cresting the hill coming at us - and he immediately hits his lights. To make it better, this was an active work zone with crews present so the fine is doubled. I chuckled about this for the rest of the way home...
