Do you get iPhone or iPad apps because you need them or because you want them?

Usually, I only have very few apps on my iPhone and usually do not install new apps unless I really need them. Mainly I use the iPhone to go on the Internet when I am not using my laptop. But lately, I have been thinking about what other apps are useful and have a need for in my daily life. I guess I want to get the most out of my iPhone.

So let me ask you this question. Do you get new iPhone or iPad apps because you want them for no reason or no good reason without thinking about how useful it would be in your daily life, or do you think about and evaluate if you really need that app before you install a new app.

Also, are you the one who has a few apps and only use your iPhone or iPad to go on the Internet or use it minimally, or do you have a lot of apps (some of them maybe unnecessary taking up storage space)?

Just curious.

I have a ton of apps, some that get used often and some that don't. Most don't take up too much space on the device so I don't really worry about it.

As far as installing more, I'll try anything free. If I don't like it I can just delete it. Paid apps will get more scrutiny depending on the price.

I have a fair number of apps - Probably over 100 total on my phone. These gadgets can do darn near anything given the right app, and both iOS and Android have enough apps that, well - These gadgets can do darn near anything! For example, I was practicing some music with my dad once... We start to tune, and I think "I wish I had a tuner!" And a couple of minutes later, I did! Then a few minutes later, same thing only with a metronome.

There's nothing wrong with having lots of apps, they generally take up less storage space than songs/pictures, and much less than videos.

Also, once you drop the $$$ on a device (or contract), the apps extend its usefulness for a tiny or zero additional cost, making that initial investment more valuable.

I agree that most apps take up only tens or a few hundred MB in storage space while pics and videos tend to take up a couple of GB. One thing I just discovered on my iPhone is that even though I believe that I have 16 GB of storage space total, the GB of storage used and the space available adds up to a total of 13.4 GB. Is that because the rest of the storage space is used for iPhone CPU or something else?

Probably formatted to something less than the full 16GB then the iOS operating system will be taking up space as well.

The difference is taken up by iOS itself.

Funny thing is, some of the "32GB" Microsoft Surface tablets only have 16GB of storage, 'cuz Windows takes up the rest.
