Why must they ruin beavers with turbines? So much better with radials.

Agreed. But expensive to maintain, slower cruise.

Why? Because Turbine Beavers perform so much better! Otters, too! The only downside is cost of the engine and fuel burn. If those two things are manageable? Fun, fun, fun.

I certainly wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to fly either variant.

Just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean you should.
That aircraft is one of those things.
    Just my humble opinion.

I love just about every airplane and every variant ever built. That was the first DHC-2 I've been in. Small doors up front. That Beaver was tight! Tall, too. It was sitting on 29" tires and they looked tiny. That thing lept off the grass like it was repelled by dirt! I need an old C140 or something similar so I can pretend it's a mini-Beaver.

    Here's mine, which has a 110" wingspan:

I have a couple of friends with Beavers and another with a Murphy Moose. For personal use I'd rather have the Moose. That plane's a beast. Best performing full size piston floatplane I've ever seen.

It sounded cool when he took off
I have a friend back in CO with a Moose that has a Yakolev radial on it. It turns the wrong way, but what a beast as far as useful load and short field/off airport ops!

He’s been back to the field a couple times since his original visit. Pilot doesn’t seem too interested in talking about his airplane or flying in general. He just took off from a snow-covered grass strip in light snow with visibility of less than 2nm, and watching him fly past the house while I stood on the steps by our kitchen door was pretty cool. I wish I’d gotten video of it.

As much as I love the sounds of a 985 chugging along

Cruise, failure rate, and, especially on the water....beta

Agreed. It's like pulling the flathead V-8 out of a '32 Ford and replacing it with a Coyote 5.0. Better, stronger, faster, but I'll take the radial sound and nostalgia factor.

Don't think they make these for the radial beaver, if was had a ton of money burning a hole on my pocket, I'd have one on my plane.
Still not as good as a turbine beta though, think it's more complicated to put it into beta and takes longer to quickly go to beta compared to a PT6 or TPE

When that Beaver goes beta when landing at the other end of the strip I can hear it from inside the house, even with music playing. It sure stops him quick when he’s empty, though! Still, I like them big round ones! (Yup)
