DEA parks one in a field

It will be interesting to see how much air was in the fuel tanks...

Or course there will no NTSB report released though... If there wa,s the N number would show up and void their nifty N number cover up.......

Possible that there is no NTSB investigation PERIOD. No cover up is required. The NTSB only has a mandate on CIVIL aviation accidents. If the DEA owned the plane it would not be civil aviation but public.

The U.S. Customs used to park their Citations and helicopters in our hanger. They all had fake N numbers.

Don't know. With two ACM's and hideous nose on the Citations, who wouldn't know who they where?

The numbers are not fake. They will resolve, but not to the average interwebz ninja. Just like "cold plating" an undercover ride.

They're not required to have registration numbers at all. Not civil.

Are you sure, Ron? The FBI was the original owner of our 182RG, and the N-number goes back to new. Makes for interesting logs...it was once serviced in Puerto Rico!

I've also worked missions with the DEA in their T41's, all of which had N-numbers on the side.

I dunno....just sayin' :-)

Now did the registration come back to the FBI or DEA?....'nuther story!

Jim

Regardless of circumstances which may or may not be present, the pilot did a good job with the two folks on board walking away.

AGREED.....

Now the taxpayers get to pay to fix the mess.......

Good news is the money should stay in Colorado as you can bet Beegles will get the recovery and repair job...

Our shop used to work on a couple of DEA planes. Their N number traced to a corporation. It was a sham to disguise the fact they were DEA planes.

Was like that in Miami 40 years ago.. IIRC a shell corp named "Southern Air" was used to mask ALOT of clandestine ops....

Are you sure about that on NTSB? I know Public operations are outside of the FAA, but the NTSB as well?:dunno:

Too bad that Steve (Exec Air) moved to FTG from BJC - he's done several Cessna firewalls for Western Air Flight Academy.

Yep.... Just like many UC cars. They come back to something, just not the real owners.

Back when I was doing mapping I would hear airplanes with the call sign "Ross 45" and "Idaho 45" loitering in the Denver area. Someone once told me that they were a government agency, which one I have forgotten by now. Pretty sure they were Cessnas.

That used to be the case, but not any more.

LOL!!

Can't count the number of ELTs turned off in that dirt storage lot across from KGXY over the years... After they weren't disabled properly and bounced up Highway 85 on a flatbed trailer...

Hey where do they truck drones to, to salvage them? Heh.

When I lived in Bailey I'd see/hear prop aircraft running N/S lines at night :hairraise: over the Conifer to Bailey area. They were using single engine aircraft. :yikes: Rumour was they were using infrared to look for grow operations.

I always thought they weren't particularly smart to run that mission...

It took about two seconds on Google to find a photo of that plane with the N-number exposed. Why do they even care?

I removed the N-number in keeping with their apparent concern, but here's a photo of one of accident plane's Cessna 206 siblings with some special equipment on the side.

I guess they fly around and use the camera to look for areas that appear to contain marijuana plants?

Camera probably installed by Sierra Nevada Corp. They seem to have cornered the market on such things.

The local CAP plane has one mounted on the side too..... The Cappies walk around acting like they are some type of secret agent or something...
The Flir cam must make them feel like their dicks are bigger then anyone else's....... Quite comical actually...:rofl::rofl::rofl::lol::lol:...

Hmmm.. the NTSB never bothered to change their own web page (it still only says civil).

They got you to pay for it, didn't they? ;)

I saw it being installed on the airplane at the Sierra Nevada hangar. Walked in to buy a part for my airplane and there's a big window to look down at the shop floor.

Even funnier? The local airport authority is using the presence of SNC and possible secret squirrel stuff being photographed as one of many reasons they're cracking down on fence line photographers. When you can walk right into their shop on a nice day when the doors are up. And usually the automatic car gate leading to their end of the ramp isn't closed during the day. LOL.

I have to be nice I guess. I know folks in the Ops office. But that one is a great whopper. The reality is that the rich folk don't like their movements about the country photographed and they're constantly whining to the FBOs who whine to the Airport Authority. It all about money.

SNC knows not to fly their secret squirrel stuff at APA. They're not as stupid as the jet set.

The really big money over at Liberty Media figured it out a long time ago. Build a hangar two miles away at the other end of the runway and buy up all the land on that side of the parallels. Very few people over there watching their comings and goings. Makes the FBOs on the other side of the airport jealous, I'm sure.

Heh. I'm sure you see similar silliness in the Hole.

Expecting privacy at a public airport is pretty damn stupid unless you're going to build a taxi-in hangar. Way cheaper to whine to the poor Airport Ops folk.

You don't know the half of it...

Last year when the Colorado RV-7 crashed here and killed that couple, I was hired to clean up the mess and assist the NTSB in the investigation to fact that our tower would NOT release the tower tapes or even hint or suggest the pilots last words so we would know what to focus on first really pi$$ed all the investigators off like you cannot believe... It was the next day, with Dave's assistance, I started to set up the rig needed to put Live ATC online.....

About a month after the KJAC feed was up and running I was "approached" by various managers / operators / pilots and they all demanded I take down the feed... Seems the vast majority of the biz jet guys have already blocked their N numbers so they could not be tracked here and the presence of Live ATC has ruined their ability to come and go without anyone knowing.... The more they pressure me to take the feed down, the more I laugh in their face... Needless to say, a few people HATE me.....:D:D:D:D

What a bunch of self-important BS. Why all the secrets? Everybody knows celebrities come to resort towns, I don't think that's a revaluation. Julia Roberts flies in/out of Taos all the time. No one has tried to hide that knowledge.

Pretty sure it's not so much celebrities as execs of public companies. How does that look to the stockholders? Remember the uproar about corporate jets in the 2008 timeframe?

Mari is right... The celebs are not the problem, in fact the main player is here now and not blocked his flight... Never has.....

It is the big wigs and their corporate fleets that want to lay low...

Aaah, OK. I wonder if GM execs are still driving their volt cross country to meetings?:)

I know of one instance in particular where public appearance was an issue. Company sold a jet. New owner didn't change the N number and was flying to high profile non business locations. Press was all over it.

There other valid reasons. No point in flagging to your competitors where you might be interested in developing some business. Also, not everyone wishes high profile executives well.

I am a stock holder and I would be concerned if the executives of a major company weren't taking advantage of general aviation possibilities.

After 2020, there will be no more secrets. Everything will be trackable...

It seems like if you want anonymity after then you'll have to charter. Might be good for charter operators and bad for corporate flight departments.

Not really.. Even in 2020 the ultra rich will be able to hide their identity... Campaign donations will do that,,, ya know...:redface:
