Darryl Greenamyer Article

Yeah surprised we didn’t have a thread on him. Very accomplished aviator. The NOVA B-29 recovery effort is an excellent documentary if you get a chance to watch it.

RIP

For some odd reason his passing went largely unnoticed by the aviation world at large.

I was at his memorial mass out in Palm Springs, and it was a very, very low key affair. There were only about 100 people there, nearly all family and close friends, and almost no "aviation" people there. Straight church service, no storytelling or other shenanigans.

It was like the diametric opposite of Hoover's memorial 2 years ago:

I’ll be honest, I remembered most of the stories, but I didn’t remember the name. Hell of a run. RIP.

The International F-104 Society has a good story about how Greenamyer accumulated the parts to build the Red Baron, his record setting Starfighter.

I think he also did some SR-71 test flights for Lockheed, when they put the airplane back in service (briefly), in the 90's, if I recall.
