...chewing on the power cables. My neighborhood plunged into darkness because a squirrel decided to chew on the cables of a transformer and take the whole neighborhood with him.

Whelp....I suggest Kraft Bold BBQ sauce.

Probably all that was left of that squirrel was fried crispy fritters....

...but don't exclude the squirrel, because he adds to the conversation, so I'm told...

That happens way too much, I wonder why the PAWS folks have not placed warning signs for the squirrels.

CAUTION DO NOT CHEW HERE

Little fellow was very much dead at the base of the transformer, I imagine electrocuted immediately. Had I still pythons I might have used his little carcass for snake food. Something a little different.

Power was out until sometime in the middle of the night. Gave me a really good excuse to sit only front porch, drink good gin and fart around on the internet.

Rocky bites the dust.

Back when I started working at a large University, the entire campus internet was served by one T3 line, which at the time was a coax cable. The campus radio station recently got an FCC permit to up their transmitter from 25K Watts to 100K Watts.

But every time they tried to turn up the power on the transmitter, the campus internet connection would stop working, and they'd have to back it down again.

It took us six months to figure out that the radio station frequency was almost identical to the RF frequency passing on the coax cable. Squirrels had chewed through just enough of the inner RF cable shielding to allow interference to block transmission on the cable when the radio station transmitted at 100KW, but not at 25KW.

Good Times.

On another note, now we use mostly fiber optics, but in a remote area we found that buzzards were crapping on the fiber lines. Buzzard crap is acidic, and ate through the cladding on the lines and caused light to enter/leave the fiber at those points, killing the connection.

Nothing changes.

We shoot those on sight around here, same with coons

Okay, I'll "bite" (no pun intended)...

What does Minoc have to do with suicidal rodents? All that turns up in Google is a city from a computer game called Ultima. I must be missing something... :dunno:

In Star Wars the Minoc attach themselves to the power cables on the Millennium Falcon (IIRC)

Star Wars reference. The Empire Strikes Back if I remember correctly.

Helps if it's spelled correctly when searching for it

Would have helped... Mynoch gives a "Did you mean Mynock?" answer. So I guess it's Mynock. Oh well.

I DID see TESB, but that was a LONG time ago... :(

In a galaxy far far away? :D

And yeah, I guess depending which site you go to it ends in -ck or -ch though it appears the -ck version is canon.

The Star Wars geek in me cannot help but to confirm that the spelling is mynock.

I'm almost embarrassed that I know.
