I remember what it was like after 90 days at sea as a young sailor. I can only imagine how its gonna be for them. Remember, what happens in West Pac stays in West Pac!
I hear some of them are planning to work on the railroad. There was a comment about "laying Thais....."

Well, the advantage of Thailand is the much higher percentage of available women... well, mostly...

I saw a picture of the Lincoln yesterday. She looked pretty rough.

Then again it could have been AI altered. You just never know these days.

No, a lot of those communicable diseases will be coming home.
They might be testing everyone who went ashore. I was stationed in Thailand in 72. When we left we’d rotate back through Iwakuni Japan. We’d get off the plane and immediately be put on a bus and taken to sick bay for the test.

Let's take 5500 stressed out guys floating aboard a sausage fest ship for 265 days, give them a testosterone booster shot, and then send them on shore in Thailand. Literally nothing bad can happen :p!

(But glad they're getting some time off in a party place after a lengthy stay in the middle east, they need it!)

I remember walking down the streets of Pattaya Beach back in 98. People missing limbs tapping a cup on the ground begging for money. Women carrying babies crying and begging for money. Prostitutes, Buddhist Monks, old white dudes holding hands walking with Thai boys. Strangest place. Could get a 5 star hotel for like $25-30 a night.

Last time I was there was in the mid 80s. There were few Benny Boys in the sleazier bars. A few beggars here and there. But mostly the streets were easily walkable. The shops had good souvenirs and jewelry to take back home, and the bars all had cold beer and decent food (if you're familiar with the cuisine and know what to order), you could even get a cheeseburger or a pizza. Yes there are always prostitutes on the street, but I don't recall them being lined up or hanging out of brothel windows like some of the raunchier streets in Bangkok. Mostly it was bar girls flirting with you and asking you to buy them a drink. I don't remember VD being any more prevalent there than anywhere else in West Pac.

Our biggest problem was sailors wrecking scooters or sailors swamping jet skis. Despite the Navy's rules prohibiting sailors from renting either, they still got themselves on the hook for thousands of dollars in damages all the same.

Apparently that's why the "ladies" were singing when they saw incoming British sailors in the 1800. Thought it would be appropriate in this thread.
