So yesterday I caught a flight to Seattle out of National. Alaska Airlines, Flight 3. Nice flight, uneventful except for a medical concern about 2 hours from Seatac. A doc was on board who treated patient and she stabilized so we didn't have to divert and they got her off the plane when we landed.

My wife, however, had a different story. She decided to join me later, and wanted to fly cheaper than I did, so she was flying NWA out of BWI with 1 connection. Just before we were leaving, automated call - now it was 2 connections.

Got text message from airport when I was about to board - she was still on the ground, one of the generators didn't start. Then Detroit closed.

She went home...she was only gonna stay till Wednesday, made no sense for her to come out on Monday instead.

There's a reason I pay more and drive further to fly direct...

Oh yeah - btw - I'm in Seattle all week. This is my formal notice to the MC. ;)

Look up Dave Krall, if he's not busy building his plane and the club planes have recovered from the wind storm last spring, you may be able to talk him into a once around the sound trip... I highly recomend it! :D

Thanks for the invite but I may have a friend coming in from out of town to see me on Friday. If he decides not to, I'll see about attending.

Last month, on our way via Alaska Airlines fron SLC to ANC, we had a ground delay due to a baggage handler collapsing and DYING :hairraise: in the cargo hold. Medical personnel came out and carted the departed away.
Then, while taxiigg out, the cabin pressure was going Koo-koo as well as causing everybody's ears to pop like mad. We had to stop while maintenance came out to "reboot" the pressurization software. Yikes.

We had a flight like that one time. We didn't get pushed back and we sat there for the longest time. I finally asked the stewardes what the hold up was. She said the crew didn't like something on there check list. So, I asked what they were doing about it. She informed me that they were trying to get a new crew.:dunno::)

Precisely why I was undergoing the brain damage to drive to BWI from DC on Friday afternoons for the non-stop flight on Southwest.... But sometimes you need segments or miles for status in a given frequent flyer program.

Mileage run! Thank goodness I haven't had to do that.

Not a true mileage run.

Trip I need to take anyway, just scheduled on the airline where I need the points/miles/segments the most. In the latest case, it's $50 more, but gives me top-tier status.

True mileage run is making the trip just for the miles, usually at an outstanding cost/mile.

Yeah, after 3 years of Gold or Platinum status, this will be the first year I've not even made Silver... really, that's the only down-side of me getting my promotion is that I don't get so many FF miles any more...

I'd have to dig out the cards to remind myself how many years straight I've been Premier Executive on United's program. At least I don't hit 1K like Scott.

When we were close to Gold vs Silver the weekend trip to the SFO area in December is a nice way to make extra miles.

I've seen just about everything I want to flying commercially. Most interesting was on a flight to St Louis after boarding luggage conveyor hits plane and pokes a hole in fuselage. After deplaning we'are sent to another gate and board a plane originnally headed to Kansas City. That flight is now a one-stop in St Louis.:D

Nice.

I used to fly commercially way too much.

Now I fly myself way too much.

162,423 miles on United, Only 10,243 on American but I am lifetime platinum on them. It will be the first time in a decade that I am not AA Exec Platinum though.

I just planned my January travel. Part of it will have me starting from Kitila Finland on the 25th of January and flying to my destination of Kona, HI. via, Helsinki, Munich, Chicago, San Francisco. It will take three full days of flying to get there.

What? Just for the thrill? Or is that the most efficient (via cost, time or some other factor) method to get there?

Me?

I can assure you that I get NO THRILL from flying in Al death tubes. That is the most efficient, cheapest way to go. My other choice was Kitilia to Helsinki to Beijing to Tokyo to Honolulu, to Kona. At least this way I get to stop by house and change the winter clothes to summer one.

2.5 Million lifetime on Delta (Lifetime Gold/mid-Tier), 75,000 qualifying miles this year (to requal as Platinum/top-tier).

250,000 lifetime on AA, 70,000 qualifying miles/70 segments this year (to requal as Platinum/mid-tier)

28 one-way trips on Southwest this year.

Plus assorted trips on BMI, EasyJet, Midwest, Amtrak/Acela, Northwest, and Continental.

The metal mailing tube these days is like the Post Office: hours of delays interrupted by a takeoff or landing.

WOW,

you guys make my ~ 30 trips a year (obviously multiple legs each trip) days feel like a positive piker.

Bill and Scott make me look like a stay at home, and I log close to 100,000 miles a year between various airlines. And that's not flying. Flying is when I'm in the left seat. The rest of the time it's just riding a high speed bus.

Hey Chuck, if you (or anyone else who frequents the PoA board) are in Seattle, let me know and I'll treat you to a flight through the mountains and over to the islands for lunch or something if you like...

I've landed in Bremerton what feels like a zillion times, and I've never gotten out of the plane!

I'll have to try the restaurant some time.

Thanks for the offer but my schedule was full before I got here. I'm in class all day and meeting with people I alread know most nights. My only free night this week is Thursday, and I have a lot of work to catch up on then.

Just in case you come to your senses about this 'work' thing, I blocked out some time on Thursday evening!

And then you can join the folks who are responsible for my worst landings - the ones sitting at the window seats grading landings. :D I seem to reserve my bounces for PWT for some reason. :P

Sooo true.

I grease it every time by myself. And then on a nice sunny day at PAE when the tours are out or BFI when all the people in the museum are watching, I just go bouncing down the runway.

Greebo! Come to your senses! Dave is a really good host / air tour guide. Only had about an hour to spare for me but it made my trip to Seattle!

Seriously guys, thanks, but I really need to keep this evening free. Sorry. :(

I know, its terrible. I'd like a raincheck tho. :)

Carol and I are planning to come back in a year or so PURELY for pleasure, and when we do, I hope I can make use of the raincheck I'm asking for now. :)

You must have sat on top of the Space Needle for too long if you're passing up that invitation. :)
