Cost of glasses

So what are you gonna do about it? Sick Obama and the federal government on them? That would certainly start a trade war, would it not? They are Italian after all.

Did you also know prescription lenses are high cost due largely to the FDA?

Personally, I plan to boycott anyone who sells that product.
What torques me is that it costs next to nothing to produce quality lenses using the new computer controlled machines. According to one of my buddies who is in the specialty lens grinding business, prescription glasses shouldn't cost more than $50.00 to $100.00 a pair, and that's with a 100% markup.

Doing a little research, I find that I can by a frame making machine, a grinder and and edging machine and a lens coating machine for a total cost of less than $150,000.00. Maybe I've found my next career.

How do you spell g-u-l-l-i-b-l-e?

Nothing wrong with the generics from the big box stores,as far as I can see.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I'm particularly bummed about Oakley. Been a fan for a long time because they were flat out indestructible. I now clearly see quality differences but didn't realize they got bought. Hadn't paid any attention.

Ironically I ended up with Polaroid as the outdoor pair this time around and I'll have to go look at the reading glasses to see who made them, but it would appear that my independent eye doc is selling mostly non-luxotica brands.

Or at least a mix. I may ask him and see what he says about it.
