Cop does speeding college student a favor by tying necktie

Half-Windsor works when you're in high school. When it's time for big-boy stuff, use the full Windsor.

A bowtie? Yeah, I'm not in a frat nor do I even look good in one... for those formal events.
I use the full Windsor, unless the tie is too short for it. Wouldn't wear a bow tie, just not my style.

Full Windsor can be bulky depending on the material, and the size of the knot should be balanced with the size of the shirt collar and coat lapels.

Actually, that second part, I just made up, but it sounds good.

Why would you want to wear a bow tie? Passive-aggressive and/or dorky, unless you're Bond. James Bond.

Exactly ! On the rare occasion when wearing a tux would you rather look like Mr. Bond or a high school kid on his way to prom ?

It just cracks me up in the air ambulance that most companies dress their pilots to look like junior assistant plumbers... Those one piece adult onesies don't fit and look awful.

(not picking on plumbers, but the point is a professional pilot should resemble one)

Wear what is comfortable and presentable at work. Show up looking like a crack prostitute or in your childs jammies and I'll send you home to change. It has happened.

For fixed wing medevac I'm not a huge fan of the nomex onesie, I'd rather dress in a two piece EMS style outfit, but dressing like sky admiral looks waaaay out of place, unless you're in some third world banna republic, for first world EMS ops, or at least real acute EMS ops, dark colored EMS style pants and shirt and boots.

...Because flying someone who's intabated and bleeding, who won't remeber how impressive you looked with your gold bars, while wearing a bright white shirt and a tie which hangs down and gets all the fun blood born pathogens on it, that screams intelligence?

Generally speaking, 30 years ago when people dressed more professionally they also ACTED more professionally. Don't get me started on "jeans day" or "sport jersey day" or all that other ********. If dressing professionally is too much to ask of you, QUIT!

30 years ago! The downfall started long before that. First it became acceptable to not wear a hat. Then, for reasons that still have yet to be explained people thought it was ok not to wear a vest. Then the jacket. It's f'ing ridiculous I tell you! No standards anymore!!! Make america great again, bring back the bowler!

I suspect there is a correlation between the improvement in heating systems and the decline in the perceived formality of attire...

As for "professional" attire all I have is say is Nixon wore a suit, Clinton wore a suit, Madoff wore a suit...

Blame JFK for popularizing the no-hat look.

I think if Bill Clinton ALWAYS wore a suit there would be one less stained blue dress in the world.

We don't roll around with the patients, so I would not know about getting covered in blood and other yuckie stuff. Otherwise for the pilots it is black pants, can be black jeans, company supplied collared light blue shirt with company name embroidered on it, shirt tail tucked in, or polo style shirt with company name on it. A couple pilots opt for the EMS style pants. When our teams walk into an FBO, no one has to ask "Who is the pilot?" like I see with so many other companies.

Hanta Virus is real here, more than once I have had to wear the full coverage NBC style suits while flying. Basic protection, I know, but as much as a germaphope as I have become it is a wonder I don't wear it 24/7.

One pilot wanted the adult onesie, so I told him we would special order one for him in bright pink. He declined after that for some reason.

That makes sense and sounds like a good getup.

It's mostly just loading and unloading where you can get gunk on ya, people gunk or airport gunk, ether way working in critical care EMS in a white pilots shirt would look awfully out of place.

I could care less if people know I'm the pilot, I didn't get into this for the image, rolly bags with stickers, or faux gold stiching, just take my fuel order and point me in the direction of the cookies and kureig.

I think there's a difference between being a get chit done professional, dressed for the mission and environment, vs looking like one someone trying to look professional, if that makes sense.
