I flew from Denton to Athens and once on approach I asked for direct. She said "no" and that she had to thread me through some planes inbound to Love and Addison.

North of Addison, she said to hold heading / alt and watch for traffic an my 9.
It was SWA 737 and I swear the pilot had blue eyes. probably 500 ft above me and right across the windshield. It was beautiful.

So out the east side of Bravo and onto my destination.

On the way back I call for FF and she says (I didn't even ask this time) "give me 2 minutes and I will get you vectors over DFW."

I told my PAX who is somewhat afraid of flying but is working on that to get his camera ready this is going to be epic. (in the grand scheme of things maybe not but for a 8 month PPL, it is epic)

It got busy quickly. They gave a lot of orders. "Head 330", "10 the left", "Now make your heading 220", "Descend to 2500 make heading 285"

Watching the big iron flying below me was a trip. In the video, you can sort of make out an Airbus taking off below me on the far left.

Was a very cool notch to add to my belt. I've been wanting to go over the top ever since I learned it was a possibility.

I do it every time KADS is landing south and I'm heading West. Never gets old and you're right passengers love it.

Great pics.

Love the taxiways.
They put a blindfold on, spin you around 3 times, pull the blindfold and say (so fast they are spitting) 'FOLLOW THE 380 LEAVING THE RAMP, BRAVO TO CHARLIE, LEFT ON PAPA, HOLD AT TANGO, CALL WHEN APPROACHING TWO THREE AND HOLD SHORT'
And my read back is, 'what planet is this?'

Very cool. If everything works out tomorrow, I'll be flying in my CFI's Stearman over SAN just like that as part of my graduation gift from him. I love flying low over those big airports.

Those pictures are great, thank you for sharing!

Nice!

DFW Regional Approach are good folks to "do business with".

I go eastbound direct rad 260 Cowboy in, and 080 out when I leave from my west side location. Rarely have trouble with big tin. It's easy for them to keep you perpendicular to the flow at the right altitude.

My strangest one was taking off from the far south runway at PHX with a northbound route, and once my wheels left the ground I got a call; "Bonanza 12345, right turn to 350 when able, climb maintain 3500". I flipped the gear up and angled right went over the tower a few hundred feet(not literally) and on my way!

Cool...similarly I've been routed directly over JFK, BWI, and IAD though none are as sprawling as DFW.

Great pics. I see my office in that as well. I'm in the W tower at Williams Square.

According to a billboard in Irving, DFW airport is larger than the city of Manhattan NY. Things are bigger in TX. :D:D

Seems common to be routed over JFK when going up or down the coast. Nice view right over center of airport. Liked the pictures of DFW.

Yea. There are a lot of TEC routes that give you JFK as a fix except when you try to fly to northern Jersey and they give you a busted up route towards Bridgeport or Carmel.

Ain't that the truth. We park on the west cargo ramp there, and it seems like I always land 17L, which makes it great for logging time for doing nothing. But when you want to be done for the day, its a long taxi over.

That's SOP in PHX. Used to do it everyday, VFR in a PA31. Could always tell how loaded up we were based on how close we were to the tower.

Hmmm, a couple times I got vectored off toward the tanks out west at low alt. Maybe they do the hard right turn with folks they know better. I only get in there once a year or so.

Back in the mid-70s, when DFW and I were both young, I was based at Goode airport, 6 mi. W of DFW (no longer there). When flying at night, the controllers would usually take me directly over the center of DFW. All the beautiful lights made women uncontrollably horny.;)

LAX Bravo has a published VFR transition that takes you right over the runways at 2500' feet. It is fun to fly with the big boys taking of and landing either side of you and seeing the volume of ground traffic moving around.

On another LAX transition a bit higher I was close enough to a SW 737 that we waved at each other mid flight! I was in a 182 and he was turning in behind me...funny, now that I think about it, ATC didn't issue a "caution, wake turbulence" to the 737! (though pretty sure his stash of peanuts falling would have created more wake turbulence then my put put!)

We did the LAX Mini-Route some years ago. LAX is amazing, but I prefer DFW's color scheme - the green color at the side of LAX's runways and taxiways really hurt my eyes... ;)

Great Photo Vdehart. That took some planning to get that shot.
