Connecticut Plane Crash Video

Truly a miracle, I hope he makes a full recovery. Looks like another stall/spin scenario.

How the heck did he survive that?! Sounds like the homeowner was really lucky too. Loved seeing everyone running TO the scene of the accident to actually help.

Spin, and sounded like he never pulled the power off, let alone attempt to recover, IF he was at an altitude sufficient for recovery. Sad. Hope he makes it.

Yikes! Amazing that is survivable.

I was stumped initially as to the aircraft type...first view it looked like a DA20/40 initially, then I saw the above-mounted engine nacelle and noticed no gear legs. Not quite a Searey or the like though. A different news report mentioned the pilot's name, which a cursory search turned up: N282XT, a "Freedom Master FM-2 Air Shark". I found an older unrelated thread about this particular aircraft from another forum. Interesting design.

I'm guessing he survived due to striking the tree branches first, then the house, to slow the decent over 50 feet or so....

Looked like a very fortunate series of events. Stall, spin low over trees and a home. As the wing came over, it caught a tree that stopped the spin and carried the plane into the roof of the modular home. The home provided a slightly softer landing than otherwise would have.

Very lucky indeed. Glad no one else was hurt.

Where did they drag up that reporter from?
The town name is pronounced "HAD-am"
not "ha-DAhM" like in Hussein

Wow...so fortunate he hit that house to slow the deceleration a little.

With the polar moment of inertia from the high-mounted engine I imagine a recovery from a fully developed spin in this airplane design would be problematic to say the least...

Yes, I cringed at HaDAHM, too. I think the reporter was a distant relative of Sum Ting Wong.

It takes two components to stall/spin an aircraft.

1. You have to fly at stall speed.
2. You have to fly uncoordinated.

You can do either one of those things individually and never have a problem, do them both at low altitude, and you'll be on the news.

When flying slow, ALWAYS fly coordinated.

Hmmm, I wonder if he had friends on a boat in that lake and was doing a show for them.

Hope for the pilots recovery.

"We had a plane take off from Goodspeed Airport," said Lt. Chris Johnson of the Connecticut State police. "It appeared to have some kind of mechanical trouble, appears to circle back. On an attempt to circle back it ended up crashing into one of the cottages we have over here."

Sounds like the impossible turn

Seems he left Goodspeed, then didn't keep good speed . . . Gotta admit, that's a great name for an airport!
