Comms during an emergency

You need to know how many people you're looking for.
Here ^^ is my point.
People on the ground needing to know this is no where near as important as maximizing the chances of a safe ending to the flight - to me this means minimizing distractions.

OK I wasn't clear. I meant a large airliner say a 737-800? Does all this matter if it is half full of fuel and passengers or full of fuel and passengers? Would the emergency response be different? I doubt it.

To me it's a distraction to the pilots that are working through their problems.

Now GA aircraft are different as there may be no passenger manifest. You need to know how many people you're looking for.
In the airliner situation, yeah, they can get that info from the company dispatcher.
