Hello
I'm studying for the commercial written. Using Gleim.
It's been years since i last took a written, so my old manual E6B is no where to be found.

It looks like I need one for the commercial written exam.

I'm 90% sure I'm never going to use it again once i get my commercial.

Questions for the experts:
(1) Will i need it on the checkride too (or just the written)?
(2) Do all testing centers offer it with testing software, or just some?
(3) Is electronic worth the extra cost (vs manual)?
(4) Does anyone have an old electronic one which they will sell or rent to me?

Thank you all

I don’t think I used mine on the written and I know I didn’t use it on the oral or practical. The testing software has a calculator built into it. I think that the alternative testing software that may not have had a calculator in it has been phased out.

Of course, the examiner might deem you not morally qualified to be a commercial pilot if you have managed to lose your E6B. So you will have to be careful to avoid that topic when you get to that stage. :)

I probably wouldn't spend money on an electronic E6B, unless somebody has an old one for a few bucks.

1. Never used mine on the checkride. Could be DPE dependent though.
2. Not sure. Try calling the testing center.
3. You can find them pretty cheap on eBay.

Find a friend that has one and borrow it. As far as needing it, no one can give that answer. Not every checkride is the same.
