anyone looking for a reason to fly in Colorado, consider La Junta airport. (KLHX) they got a few crew cars for a 8 min drive to Boss Hoggs BBQ. ...great food. Huge portions so often split plate. Ribs and chicken awesome. Home made pies, as well.

You were in Colorado and didn’t let anyone know? We are in dire need of a CO POA meet. haven’t had one in far too long.

yea, I keep a exp c172 in Colorado springs....let's plan a fly in lunch

There was a Rudy’s in the Springs when I was there and at that time was likely the best BBQ in the state.

Yep, on 24 headed towards Woodland Park. My one visit there did not impress me, but I should probably give it another try.

I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but then again I’ve been eating Rudy’s BBQ for 30-ish years or so. The original location is a couple miles down the road from me and right next door to one of the first Romano’s Macaroni Grills.

Romano created the Country Store concept although based on the original Rudy’s, built i out a few locations then sold the franchising rights a few years later in the mid 90s.

Rudy’s is the Whataburger of BBQ.

I lived in Colorado for 20 years. Plenty of great food, but write-home-about BBQ was not a thing.

My folks used to live in Woodland Park. One visit, many years ago, we went out for “bbq”. There was a place near 24 and whatever that State highway is that runs north. My wife ordered the chicken and I got brisket. They brought out my wife’s plate and she had half a chicken. Things were looking promising, then they brought out my plate with two lonely slices of brisket. I, literally, lifted up my plate to look underneath for the rest. The waitress sort of shrugged. The next time we went back the place was closed. Around here, the last place I got brisket was at Q39. They serve up 2 slices, but they are cut very thick, these were not.

I remember driving west on 24 out of Woodland Park and seeing a bbq shack on the north side of the highway. I don’t remember stopping in, might have, but I don’t remember.

When I lived in Co Springs, about 40 years ago, I can’t remember any bbq places.

Ok, lets get the religious aspect out of the way first.

Define Barbecue.

Doing a prebuy today/tomorrow at KCOS. Anything worth doing for dinner? :)

The airport cafe here is rad. While the wing messes with my wifi, it's hard to fault B-17 decor. Plus the food is tasty :D

Have you been to the WW2 aviation museum there?

Not yet, but two locals have suggested it to me, so I am drawn to it like moth to flame. I also have a competing offer of a poker game, so the museum may lose out. I've done Dayton and Chino so making a finely calibrated sophie's choice here. :D There is time for a flip-flop.

It's a good museum with some cool planes and displays. They open early in the morning and you can blast through it fairly quickly, so you could do both.

A bit north, but we hit up Colorado Mountain brewery and got venison egg rolls and bison beef Wellington.

The animatronic John Elway and Abe Lincoln over at Scheels is freaky. Still don't understand the indoor ferris wheel, but I like it.

Slow Groovin in Marble, Sue has a car for most to use. If you can get into and out of a 4000' grass runway at 7900'
